Resources🌟
Here is a message from our Executive Director, Courtney McCorkle
I hope you are returning with a full heart. But I know this week was hard for some of you. Whether you are returning full or drained, I want you to know you are welcome here and we are excited to be in this good work with you. These next few weeks are always a little stressful. Our families feel the stress as well. Have you read Building Resilience in Children and Teens? It includes an excellent resource for stress management. One of the pieces of advice from this resource that I love is to conserve energy. When you feel stressed, there are often things you can control and, unfortunately, things you can't. The plan is to conserve energy and focus on those things you can control. So, in this chaotic season. There are a lot of tasks, relationship stresses, messes, and expectations. We can't control it all. So, let's conserve our energy and focus on those things we can change. I like to pick at least one big task each morning to attack first to get my productivity rolling. We can do this! If there is anything I can help you with, please don't hesitate to contact me. As always, I delight in serving you.

IXL Challenge
Congratulations to Derek, Dominic, Ember, Trinity, Eve, & Steven for completing the diagnostic! You will be recieving your IXL ribbon and can continue to work toward earning badges to add on. If you haven't already, I recommend completing the diagnostic before working in the program. Remember, the best way to utilize this free curriculum resource for Heratland students is by speding about 15 minutes on it 3-5 times a week. I highly encourage ALL students to participate in each challenge, but especially our 5th, 8th, and 11th graders who will be taking the state science test (CAST) this spring.

While we are going to open our school bee for students in Kings and Tulare counties, only the top speller from Tulare county in the 4th-8th grade category will be able to move on to the Tulare County Spelling Championship on March 7th.

Accelerate Reader is Now Available!📖

Reading Passport
Check out this Reading Passport I created to support consistent student reading, comprehension, creativity, and understanding of different genres. If students begin to use this in December, I would recommend setting a goal of reading about 1 book every 1-2 weeks independently. This can be used for students of all ages. Students would then work on a "proof' to show you what they read (one of these can be an AR quiz with a score of 100%). With success, they would earn a passport stamp on their proof and genre. These are the stamps I use.
