Social Studies Update
Remote Teaching During a Pandemic
A Few Initial Thoughts...
From what I am learning, districts are all responding differently, but at a minimum are making sure students are safe, secure, and fed. When it comes to teaching remotely, some districts have pushed the pause button and are currently doing nothing because of a lack of devices and access to the Internet, while others are moving full steam ahead and have already provided teachers with professional development for teaching online.
There is more evidence from credible sources that this is likely to extend to at least eight weeks or even more in order for the spread of the virus to peak. There is a lot of talk about cancelling state-wide testing this year and ending the school year teaching remotely. At this point we have to wait and see and respond accordingly as things continue to develop.
Your knowledge and skills as a professional educator who is an expert in learning are needed more than ever. In fact, I believe this crisis will help elevate our profession to a higher level and people will have a renewed appreciation of the priceless value we bring to helping children be successful in life.
I look forward to re-imaging my position and supporting you as we all respond to the current circumstances. To get started, I am in the process of collecting resources and ideas for teaching remotely and placing them in one location that is easy to navigate. If you are willing, please share any resources that will not only help teaching and learning remotely, but may even help when we return back to the classroom.
