The music room looks different! The Orff instruments (xylophones & metallophones) are now on stands. Students can stand at the instrument when they play. They enjoy playing rhythms and keeping the steady beat. Students are learning how to set the bars into C, F, & G Pentatonic. A pentatonic scale is a five-note scale. They are very careful and respectful with the instruments.
Two new Contra Bass Bars were purchased (E & B) which means we have a complete set of Contra Bass Bars. That’s awesome!
Another addition to the music room are stools purchased with PTA funds. Thank you, UC PTA, for supporting all students at Union Chapel. Students can sit on the stool when playing the tubano (drum).
Fighting Vaping Webinar
Vaping has become mainstream seemingly overnight. In this webinar, Dr. Natasha Burgert will discuss vaping and e-cig use from her perspective as a board-certified pediatrician. She will review the basics of vaping and how it works, the history of the product, and address concerns of addiction. In addition, she will offer clues to parents to tell if a child might be vaping, and what to do if you do find your child with an e-cig device. Most importantly, however, she will share a message of proactive prevention and give practical ways to talk to your kids about this harmful habit.

Park Hill Star
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy. Recently, PHSD Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd visited Union Chapel to congratulate three staff members who were nominated by parents and students. Pictures of these visits are below.

The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
