AZ FAF$A Challenge
May 2020
Goal Progress
At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, Arizona set a goal that 52% of all high school seniors would complete a FAFSA by June 30, 2020. During the Fall semester, Arizona made great progress towards this ambitious goal. However, due to recent global events, FAFSA completion rates have not been increasing during the spring as hoped. Currently, Arizona is down 2.5% in FAFSA completions year-to-date. Despite the national downward trend in FAFSA completions, 91 schools in Arizona increased their FAFSA completion rates by 5% or more when compared to the prior year. The outstanding work of Arizona communities to bolster FAFSA completion this school year is a testament to the statewide commitment for this initiative. Despite unforeseen obstacles, high school staff and community partners alike will continue to engage and support our high school students in their FAFSA completion efforts.
Arizona currently holds a 42% FAFSA completion rate among its high school seniors, and we will continue to track FAFSA completion data through June 30, 2020. There is still time for students to complete their FAFSAl. Each completed FAFSA brings the state closer to reaching its 52% goal and provides financial options for students to pay for their postsecondary education.

5% Increase in FAFSA Completion
As of May 1, 2020 there are 157 high schools in Arizona that have increased their FAFSA completion rates compared to last year. Of those 157 schools, 91 of them deserve an honorable mention for increasing their FAFSA completion rates by at least 5% compared to last year. Let's give these schools a round of applause!
