Yearbook Staff 2020-2021
Parents and Guardians,
Is your student interested in photography? Are they responsible and good at making deadlines? Are they creative and a good writer?
If your student is interested in being on the yearbook staff next year and making the school yearbook, they need to fit into one of two categories:
1. They took and passed the Journalism 1 course.
2. They have a teacher recommendation from a current teacher (from the 2019-2020 school year).
They would also need to make room for a year long course in their schedule for next year. We are going to be accepting current 6th and 7th graders on staff for next year.
If your student is interested, please reach out to their grade level counselor or Ms. Cox for more information.
Yearbooks are still for sale on www.balfour.com for $45. Despite the continued learning situation, we are still having a WMS 2020 yearbook so get yours before they are gone! Beginning on May 1, they will only be sold on Revtrak and will be $50.

The time period students are moving through next week is the 1850s-1860s, when the Northern and Southern states were arguing over items such as the expansion of slavery, tariffs and other items which effect each region differently. The students’ task will be to examine the issues of Sectionalism of the past and then compare them to issues of which may divide the regions of the country today.
Math News
Math teachers continue to utilize their Google Classrooms to ensure students are moving forward in math instruction. It is so important students continue on and finish their grade level content especially in preparation for next school year. Please reach out to your math teacher or Amy Suchadoll, Math Academic Lead, if you have any questions or needs. amy.suchadoll@humbleisd.net.
This coming week’s topics are:
6th Grade – Properties of Triangles
7th Grade – Scale Factoring
8th Grade – Review of skills: IXL!
Algebra – Solving Quadratic Equations
Reminder: Our student-teacher engagement piece, the zoom meetings, are being held to provide instruction for students on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. This time is not just for questions only but instruction!! In the Google Classrooms of each teacher we have the ZOOM information plus instructional videos, assignments and activities to make sure students have additional support for our last nine week's content. Please ensure students are watching teaching videos and completing all posted activities each week. Each week one grade is taken but all activities are important.
IXL!!! - In a skill practice of IXL, students should target a smart score of 80 to be considered proficient. A target of 100 is considered mastery of a skill. As skills are mastered students can return to their recommendation wall to choose other skills. Students should return to the diagnostic section periodically, answer 15-20 questions so the system can update their levels. This is an on-going support for skills mastery! Please help us encourage your student to use this time to fill in any gaps in their math skills and extend their learning. This is such a great opportunity for academic growth!!!!
Reminder: Students should login to MyHumble and then link to the IXL icon to access the self-paced math portion of this site. It is a single sign on process and ensures students are getting all the benefits of Humble's partnership with IXL. IXL's research supports 30 minutes a day of practice on recommended skills in math in IXL. This can have a significant positive impact on future student achievement. Please help us support our lions by being in IXL frequently during this time at home. (IXL is also open to all Algebra students to use as an extra resource as well!)
