Thomas Hart Benton wanted to go to art school but instead his father sent him to military school in upper Alton Illinois. By the spring of 1907, Thomas had persuaded his father to let him study painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1908 Thomas Hart Benton persuaded his parents to send him to Paris. In 1923-1924 Thomas finishes five panels of the mural American Historical Epic exhibits them at the Architectural League, New York. In 1925-1926 Thomas Hart Benton completes 2nd chapter of panels. Probably the biggest controversies in Benton's career surrounded the mural he did for the missouri state capitol in Jefferson City.
