Principal's Message
What a joy to be back at ISB! The school is filled with students actively learning and enjoying events and activities with friends and staff. When I was here as interim principal in 2021 we were in full pandemic mode and by the end of the year only about 50% of our students returned to in-person learning. It is so much different now. Halloween was a fun first day for me. Students and staff were really into dressing up and there were some great costumes. There was a lot of candy around the school and the energy levels were high. The staff had as much fun as the students! Elvis and the Incredible Hulk were in the house, along with a giant blueberry. Lots of creativity and positive energy were on display.
Andrew and the entire staff work collaboratively with each other, students, and families to bring the tenets of International Baccalaureate to life in a culture that is caring and supportive of students achieving a rigorous program of study. All of us are holding Andrew in our hearts as he takes care of his physical health, and we look forward to the time he will be back at ISB. We miss you, Andrew!
One of my surprises in returning this week was the amount of traffic in the parking lot. Without all students attending in-person in spring 2021, there was little traffic. This is a good time to remind everyone of our expectations for parking lot etiquette.
Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up creates many challenges at ISB. Drive slowly both in the parking lot and on Blanton Street. Pedestrians always have right-of-way no matter where they are crossing. Stop when you see students in the street.
When dropping off in the morning, please don’t pull into the bus lane until after 7:15.
When you come into the parking lot at the end of the day, make sure you pull into an open lane and drive as far forward as you can getting as close as you can to the car in front of you. Do not remain in the entrance lane. This blocks traffic coming in off of Blanton Street creating gridlock as nobody can then leave the ISB parking lot.
Consider picking up your student at 2:20 so that the parking lot is nearly empty by the time you get here.
We have a crossing guard to help keep students safe, and several of us do regular parking lot duty to manage the traffic flow. Thank you for helping us by following the steps above.
Don’t forget to “fall back” on Sunday with the end of daylight saving time. Take care.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams

2021-22 School Profile
A link to our 2021-22 school profile is posted on our school webpage under About Us>School Profile>Oregon Report Card. The 2021-22 district profile is posted on the district report card webpage.
State report cards began when the 1999 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring every public school and district to receive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how they are performing overall. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and affords states greater flexibility. ESSA encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance. Report cards also serve as an important tool for continuous improvement planning by local and state policymakers, in conjunction with the communities they serve.
The 2021-22 school and district profiles include all available data not impacted by the state’s response to the COVID-19. As part of the federal response to COVID-19, all students in our school were eligible for free school meals last year. As a result, our Free/ Reduced Price Lunch percentage is reported as >95%.
At International School of Beaverton WE are committed to using this information to help tailor our school improvement plans and academic programs to meet the needs of every student. You’ll find our current school improvement plan here: https://isb.beaverton.k12.or.us/about-us/school-learning-plan. During the year I will communicate with you frequently about student achievement and programs in place at our school to foster student learning and success.
If you have questions about our report card or would like a print copy, please contact me. You may also have suggestions for improvements. Please share them! Thank you!
End of Daylight Saving Time Reminder
Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 6th at 2:00 a.m. when our clocks "fall back" an hour and we gain an hour of sleep.
Fall Safety Tips
Every year thousands of people are injured due to daylight saving time changes and the changing of the seasons. Autumn means all road users should be extra alert.
Wear bright reflective clothing when walking or rolling.
Don’t assume people driving will see you. Make eye contact before crossing in front of vehicles.
Be alert! Keep eyes and ears open, especially while crossing the street.
Cyclists should make sure to have lights and wear helmets – it is the law.
Driving or biking? Use extra caution and slow down in the dark and rain. And remember, do not text and drive!
Beaverton School District Inclement Weather Information
When we have inclement weather, school schedules could be affected. School closure or delayed start decisions will typically be communicated to media outlets and posted on the district website, ParentSquare and social media by 5:30 a.m. The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely, the ability of parents and students to drive safely, and the ability of students to walk safely. Decisions are made for the entire District. However, we encourage families to make transportation and attendance decisions for their children based on their own assessment of travel conditions at their locations.
For the latest inclement weather information:
- Check the district website. A page pop-up will be posted if there’s a change in school operations.
