Reid Elementary News
January 2023
Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a nice relaxing holiday break! Please be sure to check your teacher’s emails and the PTO website for upcoming events and news.
I know this year holds many wonderful opportunities. A great way to start off the New Year is to make an academic resolution. What is a goal your child would like to work on? Is it to read 10 minutes every night, study math facts, or learn to count money? Whatever they choose… practice will help them achieve their goal.
January is also a great time to increase your child’s independence. Do they know how to tie their shoes? Could they help take out the trash or clean up after their pet?
Giving children an attainable task to accomplish teaches them responsibility, and helps them develop skills they will need as they become responsible adolescents.
Reid’s school day begins promptly at 8:40 am and ends at 3:50 pm. If you need to make appointments, we ask that you try your best to schedule them outside of the school day. We need students to be at school every day on time to learn all we can.
Dressing for the weather is very important. Please be sure to send your child to school with a hat, gloves, coat, snow pants, and boots. Children go out every day unless the temperature is below 10 degrees. Please label all of your child's items with their name.
Thank you for all you do to support your child, our staff, and our school.
2023 is going to be a great year!
Educationally yours,
Jamie Wagner
Principal

Stay Healthy!
Everyday Preventive Actions:
• If you or your child gets sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you (or your child) stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. The fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.
• While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs that can cause illnesses.

Hand UP Food Pantry
A Hand Up food pantry is located at Grand Blanc West Middle School and provides free food items to families that have a connection to one or more students at Grand Blanc Community Schools, K-12.
A Hand Up does NOT have a visit limit, income or ID requirement. You do NOT have to be a Grand Blanc resident, just a family of a student at one of these schools.
The pantry is supplied from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Our process has changed in that we are no longer going to have people come in to the pantry. Items will be pre-packed for each family ahead of time and ready on the Thursday after your form is submitted (by 2pm Tuesday). Bags will be placed in bins at the WMS entryway. You may come once per week for as long as you need.
The food pantry is experiencing the same supply-chain issues as everyone else, and there will likely be some substitutions or things not included due to supply. Every effort will be made to provide a suitable substitute. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
