Thank you very much to all students and students' families for your generosity with the many donations that have already arrived in the Sixth Form area for Foodshare. We continue to collect donations and would be very grateful for donations of non-perishable foods, such as cereals, tea bags, coffee, canned goods (fruit, meat, fish, soup, desserts and tomatoes), biscuits, rice, noodles and sugar. The collection point is in the Sixth Form Area.

Thank you.

Sixth Form Social Club

The Social Club for 2016-17 had a recent meeting to organise their forthcoming events -

the Christmas Party on Wednesday 14 December at Magnolia Park, Hugenden Valley and next summer's Prom. The combined cost for these two events is a very reasonable £45. Please can we ask you send in a cheque to the Sixth Form office to cover this. Cheques should be made payable to Claires Court Sixth Form Social Club. Please do not pay for this online as it will go into the wrong account. Many thanks.

Electronic Entry and Exit

Sixth Form students now all have a red lanyard with badge attached which allows them electronic entry to the College Ave site. Some Sixth Form students are regularly forgetting to bring in their lanyards. Please could parents help to remind students that they MUST bring in and wear their lanyard every day, and to leave it somewhere obvious overnight so they can easily remember it every morning. Thank you.

GUEST SPEAKER - Ed Pawsey from the Army

Ed Pawsey, ex-Army Captain and now careers advisor for Army recruitment, came to speak to the students about the many and varied careers within the Army. He spent much time talking to the students about their specific visions for the future and will be back into school to follow up with them at a later date. Ed made sure that his talk was tailored to the needs of the students and he also spoke to them individually about their future aspirations.

Extended Project Qualification Presentation by Alasdair Butler

As part of the requirements for Alasdair's EPQ, he had to give a presentation to an audience on his chosen subject, Constantine. It was an excellent presentation, detailed and full of information. The question and answer session which followed showed Alasdair's depth of knowledge abut his subject. We all learned something new. Alasdair balanced his time, researching and writing his EPQ whilst studying for his 3 A levels and applying to university. We wish him an excellent result for his project.

Rugby report

The 1XV made the long journey to the heart of Hertfordshire, to play a strong Richard Hale side, after a cancellation in the league.

Richard Hale started the stronger, scoring 3 early tries in the first half. However, after relentless pressure from the well organised Claire's Court set pieces, both Tom May and Owain Griffiths went over for two late tries in the first half.

Claire's Court remained on top in the second half with constant line breaks from centre Matt Simmons and hard carries from Chris Rayer and Billy Gore.

Despite James Roach scoring a late try, Claire's Court couldn't quite manage to overcome the first half deficit and lost a close 22-17 match.

Sailing News

On Friday 2nd October, Claires Court took part in the ISA sailing Nationals. With a strong breeze and some sunshine, Claires Court had a strong set of results with boats finishing overall in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th place. Saturday was the Firefly Open at Bough Beach sailing club. Again, with another day of good weather, the Claires Court boats finished 5th (narrowly missing out on 4th) and 16th.
