We are Artists!
Hi there and welcome to art!
I want to have each child feel welcomed, special and safe while they are in my care. Each year, I start out reading “The Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg. This story is a kid favorite! We talk about how there are no mistakes in the art room. That’s right! No mistakes in art. We might have a “beautiful oops” once in awhile, but we can handle it together!
The art room theme this year is inspired by the artist Henri Matisse and his works of art including “The Goldfish” and “La Gerbe.” Goldfish and colorful organic shapes are decorating the walls and hanging from the ceiling to stir up and inspire imagination and creativity. We even have a pet fish appropriately named…Matisse!
We are currently in the middle of our study on Matisse. First through third grade started painting papers the very first day. Later we cut these papers out into organic shapes and glued them onto a collage just like Matisse. Fourth grade started a Matisse garden sketch in their new sketchbooks that they just couldn’t wait to draw in. Kindergartners have been learning their way around the art room while learning their shapes and working on fine motor skills like coloring, cutting and gluing. All of the children will be creating a goldfish painting this year as well. They are already very excited about that!
I am looking forward to another fabulous year in the art room at Lone Star!
