Principal's Message
February 9, 2018
Dear Willink Families,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.... I feel like the weather is like a record that keeps skipping! While I love snow, it is starting to get a bit old. I shared that thought with several students today and then had to explain the analogy. I keep forgetting that very few have experienced the joy of listening to an album that skips. The good news is that the Olympics began last night and there is nothing better than watching the finest athletes in the world compete for gold on a cold winter's day or night.
The Principal's Advisory Committee and the Willink PBIS team are always looking for ways to keep us all thinking about our PINK message. A couple of parents on the PAC mentioned the book "How Full is your Bucket?" and that it was a great complement to what we already do. After discussing it with both the PAC and our PBIS team, we decided to share the book with the students via Titan TV and add in a few other layers. So, today, I led off with the fact that our building is filled with Titans that CARE and our students are very kind and thoughtful as evidenced by their PINK New Year's resolutions and the other PINK activities we have done this year. Then, we played the narrated version of the story during DEAR time. Afterwards, I talked with students about how Titans that CARE lift each other up by filling their buckets. I also shared that the best way to lift your own spirits is to do nice things for others. I challenged students to be intentional about filling the buckets of others. Each classroom also has a poster of a bucket with a quote on it. You can click here to watch the video and scroll below to see the pictures of the signs. Please talk with your child about today and reinforce the idea of being intentional in terms of filling buckets. We can never have too much kindness!
This month's CARE-acter trait is integrity. Today, our WEB leaders went into 6th-grade homerooms and read a story about the importance of acting with integrity and what can happen if you don't.
Report cards are now available online via the portal. You will also get a print copy this weekend, if it hasn't come already. Please take the time to review your child's academic progress with them and set some goals for 3rd quarter. As always, your child's teachers and their counselors are ready to assist if needed. Please contact them directly with questions.
Next Friday is our 2nd PBIS assembly of the year. Students are already excited about playing "Wheel of Fortune" and many have signed up to participate. These assemblies are always filled with excitement and are a great way to wrap up a week. We will be sharing pictures and videos on our Twitter page and the Willink homepage.
Enjoy your weekend!
Jim

Box Top For Education Collection
The FACS department is sponsoring the Winter Homeroom BOX TOP FOR EDUCATION COLLECTION contest from now until February 12.
Box tops are located on many different food products like Pillsbury and Old El Paso products. Please save box tops and send them to homeroom with your son/daughter. The top homeroom will receive breakfast and the 2nd and third place homeroom will also receive prizes.
The money we get will allow us to buy stuff that is not included in our normal budget. With our last check, we were able to purchase a silhouette cameo machine which helps us to cut out wall words to decorate the school, etch glass mugs and many other things.
Please ask everyone you know to save them!
