PIERCE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Family Update - June 21, 2022
Week of 6/21/22
Dear Pierce Families,
We have arrived at the last week of the 2021-2022 school year! I continue to be proud and grateful for the support our community has provided our students, staff, and school since September. I wish everyone all the best for a restful summer.
This week’s newsletter includes details about upcoming events in and around the school community. If you would like to view this newsletter in another language, you'll find the translate button at the top right corner of the document.
Please do not hesitate to be in touch with any questions.
Sincerely,
William Fish, Ed.D.
Principal
Milton Foundation for Education Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Zakia Jarrett, who has been selected as the Teacher of the Year at Pierce! Earlier this month, the MFE and Pierce students and staff gathered to surprise and celebrate Ms. Jarrett for her accomplishment.
Summer Reading
This link outlines summer reading titles and assignments for students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 next school year. Students are welcome to read whatever books they would like, but we hope that the list of titles included in the link provides students and families with some ideas and direction for reading in the summer months.
Chromebook Collection
Please see below for all details on the collection and distribution of Chromebooks.
Current 6th & 7th Graders: All current sixth and seventh grade students will keep their MPS issued device for the duration of their time at Pierce. Students who are not returning to Pierce should bring their device to Ms. Royster in the library before they leave Pierce on June 24th.
Current 8th Graders: All 8th grade students will return their MPS issued Chromebook and charger to their designated team teacher this week. Families who did not purchase the optional Chromebook insurance will be invoiced for lost Chromebooks, lost chargers, and damage to the Chromebook outside of normal wear and tear.
From the Pierce PTO
The Pierce PTO is looking for new members for the 2022-2023 school year! Returning members next year are Jessica Heaton, Michelle Cardoza, Bruce Long, Timoria Saba, and Stacey Solomon. We are in need of a treasurer, fundraising lead or team, a media (Facebook/website) lead or team, and anyone that wants to just be involved! Please reach out to Jessica Heaton at jrheaton04@yahoo.com or Michelle Cardoza at ashergreta@gmail.com if you are interested in getting involved or learning more!
Congratulations to this Year's MPS Retirees
Last week we gathered at Milton High School to celebrate our six MPS staff members who are retiring at the end of this school year. We invite you to read more here about April Allegrezza, Mike Cleary, Tracy Attaya, Judy Bygate, Sue Hennessey and Joe Dolan (who retired late last year). Please join us in thanking these valued staff members for their service to the Milton Public Schools!
2022-2023 Late Start Dates
Next year’s calendar linked here includes four Late Start days (9/23, 10/28, 1/17, 3/31) new to the MPS calendar. These days will be used for Staff Professional Development, similar to Early Release days. Your child’s school day will begin 2 hours later on these days, ESAP will be open for enrolled students at the elementary schools, and lunch and afterschool activities will continue as usual.
From the Health Room
All student medications must be picked up from the school nurse’s offices by Friday June 24th. All medications will be disposed of after this date. Please make arrangements for pick up with your school nurse.
Incoming 7th and 11th grade students: Updated, current physical exams and immunizations are required for entry into 7th and 11th grades. Please review the state’s updated School Immunization requirements as a Tdap booster and Meningococcal vaccine are needed for 7th graders and a Meningococcal booster is a state requirement for 11th grade.
Due to pandemic workload, MPS was not able to complete the SBIRT screening for 7th and 10th graders this year and unable to provide postural screening for elementary and middle school students. If you would like postural screening for your student, please reach out to the school nurse who will coordinate this with your student’s teacher prior to the last day of school.
Residency Re-establishment
The Milton Public Schools Residency Policy linked here states that students who attend the Milton Public Schools and Out of District placements shall be required to re-establish residency prior to entering Grade six (6) and or Grade nine (9). Re-establishment of residency will take place between June 6 – 20, 2022.
On June 6, an email with “re-establishment” in the subject will be sent to all families who must re-establish residency. That Re-establishment of Residency Letter is linked here. In addition, the MPS required residency documents can be found here.
