Norris News!
A weekly update from campus...
October 12, 2018
Can you believe that we are at the end of the 1st nine weeks? By now, new routines and procedures are set, our students have settled into their classrooms quite well, and the progress being made is amazing! A big THANK YOU goes out to our parents for the support you give our teachers and your children.
We had a successful Walk to School Day on Wednesday! It was great to see all of our students promoting a healthy lifestyle by walking to school. Thank you to our PTA for organizing the day and for passing out healthy items! See some pictures below.
Our teachers have started parent conferences. These conferences are an important component in our ongoing partnership and collaboration on your child’s learning. Contact your child’s teacher and schedule a conference if you haven’t done so yet.
Have a great weekend!

COOLER WEATHER IS HERE!
It has started getting cooler in the mornings, so we ask that you keep in mind the following:
- The carpool line will get longer on cold mornings, so please plan accordingly. Don't forget that you can drop students off starting at 7:10 am. As a reminder, students should be in their class ready for the day when the bell rings at 7:45 am.
- Please be sure to send a jacket with them on cool weather days, and make sure it is labeled with your student's name.
Coffee with Administrators on Monday
Please join us October 15th at 8:00 am for Coffee with Administrators! We will be discussing district-wide social emotional initiatives such as Make your Move and Character Lab. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the research based character strengths that are taught and strengthened throughout the instructional day. Moreover, parents will have the opportunity to view “Make Your Move” in action and learn strategies for how to model, discuss, and celebrate these strengths at home. We hope you will join us!
Mark your calendar for the Coffee with Administrators dates for this school year:
- October 15th at 8:00 am
- December 17th at 12:00 pm
- February 25th at 8:00 am
- April 15th at 12:00 pm
Multicultural Night & Parade
Tuesday, October 16th at 6:00 pm is Norris Multicultural Night! That morning your child is invited to dress in traditional dress of the culture of their choosing and we will have a "Parade of Countries". Students who dress up will walk the hallways of Norris. As we finish walking the halls, we will exit the door to the far left of the main entrance and walk the parking lot over to the cafe where we will re-enter school. Parents are invited to come watch the "Parade of Countries" from the parking lot. You won't even have to check in at the front desk! We anticipate the student parade to last from about 8:05 am to about 8:25 am.
Then that evening starting at 6:00 pm, we invite all the Norris families to come walk the countries being displayed. Passports will be handed out as you enter and we encourage every family to get their entire passport stamped! We hope to see everyone on the 16th of October!

Reflections
Reflections art projects are due October 19th. We would love for all students to participate! This year’s theme is Heroes Around Me, and the categories include dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. With positive recognition as the focus of the Reflections program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story. If you have any questions, please contact Divya at diviashu@gmail.com. We are looking forward to seeing all the projects!
