Principal’s Message
I hope you had a relaxing Thanksgiving break! Thank you for attending our parent teacher conferences. They were very successful. It was great to have the time to talk with families about their child’s progress this year. Our staff would also like to thank the PTO for the wonderful video they made and for the Starbucks gift cards. So thoughtful!
Thank you to our Book Fair Coordinators, Jennifer Niederberger and Alice Herz for organizing our very first Virtual Book Fair. The Book Fair ends on December 6 so there is still time to order books. Please visit: www.abcfairs.com to order. Books will be packaged and ready for pick up outside of school on December 11th between 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 12:00 -1:00 p.m.
Thank you to all of our students who sent us Thankful Thursday messages of gratitude. Here is the link to this week’s Gratitude Wall. Enjoy!
MAP Testing Next Week
Next week, students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will be taking the MAP assessment. These assessments help us to monitor each child’s progress and analyze student growth in English Language Arts, Spanish Language Arts, and Mathematics.
This time around all students will be taking the MAP tests from home. Since this is new to most of our students and families, we wanted to provide you with the following tips/information:
MAP assessments are on Monday Dec. 7th (Math), Tuesday Dec. 8th (English Reading), and Wednesday Dec. 9th (Spanish Reading) during the time students are normally with their classroom teachers.
Please ensure your child is well-rested and in a distraction-free environment for their assessments.
Please allow your child to work independently! The primary purpose of MAP Growth is to figure out what students know and what they’re ready to learn next so teachers can provide the most appropriate instruction to help them grow. Helping your child answer questions compromises test data and makes it harder for teachers to provide personalized instruction.
We recommend that you encourage your child to do their absolute best, but that you don’t provide any hints or assist them in answering questions.
Most students finish their test in about 50 minutes when they take them in school. When students take tests remotely (e.g. in-home), it may take a little bit longer. However, we do not want students spending hours on these tests.
Need technical support on the day of the test? Follow the instructions provided by the classroom teacher. For K-2, teachers will be available for you to call into a Zoom session during the test to speak with the teacher directly. For 3-5, teachers will be available to join or chat with you in your Zoom Breakout and/or GoGuardian.
Curricular Materials Pick Up/Drop Off
Students will need more English and Spanish ReadyGen books soon. We will have another curricular materials pick up on Tuesday, December 15 and Wednesday, December 16 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Students have finished Unit 1 in English and Spanish Reading so we are asking you to return those books when picking up the new books. A detailed list of books to be returned will be shared with you. More information coming soon!
