Middle School Moments
July 30, 2020
From the Desk of Mrs. McCoy, Middle School Principal
Some of the information here might be helpful to you as you plan for this year. This information is also on the main page of the SBA website called "School's Out! Summer Resources." It is also on the Parent Portal as well. We will continue to send you information as we approach August 12th, but here is some for now.
New Families
- We want to welcome you to campus in small groups due to social distancing because we feel like it is important for you to visit campus prior to school opening.
- We will invite you by homeroom and ask that only 1 parent accompany your child.
- Masks will be required for everyone 12 and older.
- We ask that you fill out this Waiver before you come to campus.
- Middle School families will enter through door #4, which is our Carline door and exit out of the Upper School entrance which is door #1.
6A Mrs. Burnette's homeroom - 8:30 - 9:30
6B Mrs. Epperson's homeroom - 9:30 - 10:30
6C Mrs. Taylor's & Mr. Brady's homeroom - 10:30 - 11:30

6F Mr. Thompson's homeroom - 2:30 - 3:30
8:30 - 9:30am come to homeroom classes to meet your teachers (must follow New Families info above for entering the campus building). 7th and 8th graders (who were here last year) we look forward to seeing you on the first day of school!
Note:
If you prefer, you can arrange a time for a Virtual Tour of the classroom with your child's homeroom teacher.
Virtual Campus Information
- Monday, August 10th "Virtual Campus Drive By Pick Up" for necessary textbooks and supplies for the first quarter between 1:00 - 2:00 pm at the middle school carline door #4.
- Monday, August 10th "Virtual Campus Google Meet" at 6:30 pm. One parent and student need to join the google meet. Details for the Meet to follow in an email.
Middle School Administration Q & A
- Tuesday, August 11th - Q & A Google Meet at 6:30 pm. Details to follow in an email.
Lockers
As we begin school we will assign socially distanced lockers to 6th grade. They will access them two times a day as scheduled by their homeroom teacher. At this time, 7th & 8th grade students will take what they need with them to class rather than have a locker. We will assign them at the time it seems safe to do so.
Masks
Kindergarten - 12th Grade
Students may come to school in any mask they feel comfortable wearing. The only limitation to this is that the mask must follow the dress-down day standards of acceptable apparel. For clarification, please reference the Middle School Parent & Student Handbook which can be found under the resources section in FACTS (link the word "FACTS" to https://logins2.renweb.com/logins/ParentsWeb-Login.aspx).
Just the same with clothing in these scenarios, if a mask is considered to be in violation, the student will be given a disposable surgical mask for the remainder of the day. Those under 12 years old will only need masks for walking the hallways and places where 6 ft. distancing is not possible. Our teachers will help to clarify these times and places with our students prior to leaving the classroom.
Further Clarifications
Decision-making regarding mask policy is strongly influenced by both CDC and AAP guidelines for the return to school. Even following the initial September 8th lift on a mask requirement, the Academy may choose to continue safety measures that include masks in the areas of the school mentioned above.
Disposable masks will always be available for students who lose theirs.
Students may either wear a surgical mask OR a mask/buff that follows the current dress down day standards of acceptable apparel. All masks worn by students must fit within these guidelines.
Car tags for 6th grade will be available when students come to campus on August 6th, or will be given to students on the first day of school. 7th & 8th graders will receive their car tags the first day of school.
Supply kits will be available on the first day of school.
Enjoy your last weeks of summer and we will see you soon - on campus or in our virtual campus.
Welcome Our New Middle School Teachers

Josh is coming home after being away to earn his degree at Jacksonville University. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 2019 and will finish his Master’s degree in December. Josh also graduated from SBA in 2016! We are thrilled to have him teach our students in 6th grade Study Skills and influence them in football. Josh says he is thrilled to see what God has for him at SBA. He is excited to be able to pray and speak freely about the gospel and help grow their hearts for Christ. Welcome home, Coach Brady.

Friends of the Fine Arts and Take a Seat Campaign
The Silverdale Fine Arts Department has just launched a new group called Friends of the Arts! When you become a Friend of the Arts, you bring increased exposure to our growing Fine Arts Department and our school community at large. You support and encourage each fine art student through tangible encouragement, and provide financial support for all components of the Fine Arts Department at Silverdale Baptist Academy. We offer both family and corporate partnerships and would love for you to come alongside us in pursuit of the arts. For more information and to also learn about our "Take a Seat" campaign in the Creekside Theatre, please visit silverdaleba.org/arts.
Student Assistance Program
These can be very anxious times. Remember to reassure your child that God is bigger than this virus. Joshua 1:9 says to “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Middle School Cross Country (grades 6-8): If you are interested in running Cross Country, please contact Coach Hampton to get further information. Optional summer practices have begun.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still in effect, it is ever so important that I, as your child’s school nurse, have the most up-to-date and accurate information on our students. It is essential that we partner together in caring for your child’s health in the coming school year. There are a few items listed below I will need from you prior to the first day of school:
Updated Immunization Records
Fax to 423.892.2147
*All students entering 7th grade are required to submit an updated immunization record prior to the first day of school.*
Care Plans
ALL students with medical conditions must have a completed care plan on file prior to the first day of school.
Care plan templates may be found on Nurse's Corner, or you can find the links below.
Parents/Guardians must submit completed care plans to the school nurse at the beginning of every school year. The prime responsibility for a student’s health is with the parents/guardians who are responsible for the student’s medication and must supply the school with all relevant information needed in order for proficient care to be given to the student. Parents/Guardians should update the school nurse as needed with any changes in medical conditions.
Diabetes Care Plan: Submit your care plan from your physician’s office.
Medication Forms
Designated personnel or I will assist students who are required to take medication during the school day. Medication should be taken at home when possible. If it is necessary for a medication to be given during school hours,
Medication Authorization Form must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian. (A separate form is required for each medication and a new form must be completed at the beginning of every school year.)
Medication must be in the original prescription bottle and properly labeled by the pharmacist.
The initial dose of a new medication must be given at home.
Students may not bring medications of any type to school except those that have a filed “Medical Authorization Form.” Students are not allowed to keep any type of medication on them, in their backpacks or lockers unless they have submitted written consent from a parent/guardian to the school nurse, and the school nurse approves.
Emergency medications should be checked in with the school nurse; then with parent and physician approval, students may carry emergency medication or medication will be kept in the emergency box.
Please submit ALL forms and care plans to awidener@silverdaleba.org or fax to 423.892.2147.
Once your care plan is submitted, I will correspond via email and set up an appointment, if necessary. Please feel free to email me any questions or concerns you may have. I am looking forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Anne Widener
School Nurse
