Wynford Elementary
November--2018
From the Desk of Mrs. Ratliff
Did you know that the Wynford Education Foundation offers grants to the teachers in our district every year? Teachers have the ability to apply for funds that are to be used to support students in their classrooms or grade levels. Of the $11,600 available, Wynford Elementary teachers were awarded $10,306.05! The teachers used these funds for computers, headphones, online programs, games, books, and storage units for their classrooms and students. We cannot thank the WEF enough for supporting our students and teachers. If you are willing to donate to them, please contact our office, we will give you the information needed!
Did you know that WES had a joint Leadership Day with Bucyrus Elementary?
Wynford Elementary School and Bucyrus Elementary School hosted a joint Leadership Day on November 8th. This was a unique opportunity to see two different schools from a wide variety of perspectives. We spent the day celebrating our teachers’ and students’ successes. Guests were at Bucyrus in the morning and Wynford in the afternoon. Our classrooms were open for visits, people were able to discuss best practices with teachers, and students shared how Leader in Me has impacted their lessons and lives. Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions at our panel discussions, tour our buildings to see how Leader in Me is celebrated throughout the school, and be our guests at lunch.
Leadership Day was a special opportunity for our school to open our doors to the community to show off the great things that are happening. Through implementing The Leader in Me process we have built a unique environment where the principles, practices, and habits of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People® are embedded into our culture. The Leader in Me process defines our school operations, permeates instructional practice and curriculum, and is the basis of a vibrant leadership development approach for both students and staff.

7 Habits Review--Habit 3--Put First Things First
Habit 1 says, "You're in charge. You're the creator." Being proactive is about choice. Habit 2 is the first, or mental, creation. Beginning with the End in Mind is about vision. Habit 3 is the second creation, the physical creation. This habit is where Habits 1 and 2 come together. It happens day in and day out, moment-by-moment. It deals with many of the questions addressed in the field of time management. But that's not all it's about. Habit 3 is about life management as well--your purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are "first things?" First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth. If you put first things first, you are organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2.
How can you put first things first to accomplish your goals for 2018?
