Hybrid Update

The district met with Dr. Spitters from the Snohomish County Health District last week. The current rate of infection per 100,000 over a 14-day period has increased significantly over the past 4 weeks.

According to the new Decision Tree from the Department of Health, we are now in the “High Range” of COVID-19 activity level (101.1). This new decision tree included several changes:

  • Continued distance learning is still strongly recommended, with limited in-person learning for younger learners (especially K-3) and high need students (e.g., disabilities, homelessness, farthest from educational justice)

  • In-person learning for older students is discouraged, except high need students, particularly at the current level and trajectory of COVID-19 activity in the community.

  • Strongly recommend canceling or postponing most in-person extracurricular activities, including sports, performances, clubs, events, and such, with the option to allow extracurricular activities in small groups of six or fewer students.

Additional information provided included a “slight uptick” in infection rate of 0-19 year olds. Attached to this email is the presentation given by Dr. Spitters this afternoon, and the Snohomish County Health District’s press release.

We were relieved to hear Dr. Spitters’ guidance to allow districts to continue serving Kindergarten through 3rd grade students and special populations. He has recommended that school districts hold off on bringing additional students for in person learning. In light of this guidance we are postponing in person learning for our 4th and 5th grade students until November 9. We will now be meeting with Dr. Spitters and the health district weekly and the district will adjust plans as metrics and guidance change.

Halloween Celebrations

There will be no costumes worn at school, but we are excited about Hat/Headwear Spirit Day! Students are encouraged to wear their favorite hat, headband, or wig.
  • Tuesday, October 27 - AA Hybrid students
  • Friday, October 30 - BB Hybrid students
  • Friday, October 30 - Continuous Learning 2.0 students

Hybrid students may have classroom celebrations, so look for more information from your child's teacher. If you are sending a treat to share they must be store bought and individually packaged. No open food containers or drinks will be allowed to meet safety guidelines.

Honk or Treat

We are excited for our PTA Honk or Treat event on Tuesday, October 27 from 6:00-7:00. Drive through the Twin City Elementary parking lot to pick up a treat. There are three golden tickets hidden in the treat bags. Turn them in for a special prize from our PTA. Costumes are optional, but fun is required!

In order for this event to go smoothly we remind you that all students must remain in their car at all times. Staff will be practicing social distancing and wearing masks. We look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible!

Meal Applications

All students will be offered a FREE Grab & Go breakfast and lunch meal when they come to school. We strongly encourage all parents/guardians to submit a Meal Application.

Every eligible form that is not submitted means lost resources for our schools. Meal Applications may be downloaded from the Stanwood-Camano School District Food Service Website by following this link: Free & Reduced Meal Application. Additionally, families may complete meal applications online via SKYWARD Family Access. Directions for submitting an online application can be found by following this link: Food Service Online Application Entry in Family Access.

Once you submit an application, you will either receive an email, if you have an email address on file or a notice in the mail as to whether your child/children can receive free or reduced-price meals. Submit your completed application, as soon as possible, to help make sure it counts toward potential new funding for our school this year.

Counselor Corner with Mrs. Schwarze

Happy Halloween Tigers! I hope you enjoy this week and find ways to have fun with your family and friends while keeping safe. We will wrap up our month of focusing on courage this week! What did you learn about courage? How have you been using courage at school and at home? Sit down for a family game night to play Courage Charades to review all the things you have been learning about courage. Have each family member write down a couple actions that take courage (i.e giving a speech, diving off the diving board, making a new friend, etc.) on slips of paper and put them in a hat. Divide into teams. One team member will draw a slip out of a hat and act it out to their team. Continue until all the slips have been acted out. Keep score or don’t, the point is to have fun!

Counselor Corner slide decks will be new each Monday and you can find these in your Google Classroom, Seesaw or a link on Clever. Take time this week to check them out!

Mrs. Laures is working to create teams to compete in the Sno-Isle Third Grade Reading Challenge. Please download the guidelines and fillable entry form document and submit that, along with your student's completed work, to TwinCityPTA@gmail.com. Entries are due November 20.
