AFC MUSIC Newsletter
"Where words fail, music speaks." Hans Christian Anderson
Hello Music Families!
I am hoping that this newsletter helps keep our music families informed about all that is happening for our young musicians! Despite all the obstacles this year, our AFC students are MAKING music!! In these newsletters I hope to share some of our daily experiences, celebrations, and all the things we are looking forward to.
I'll try to include a little news from the various grades and ensembles--and even the Drama Club that I have been advising this year.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns ddeter@afcschools.net.
Happy Music Making,
Mrs. Deter
Leadership Teams
High School Band and Choir are working in Leadership Teams to recruit for Band and Choir at all levels, improve the organization in our music library, create social committees, develop apprentice conductors, and have a knowledgable crew that can help with all our music equipment.
The students that volunteered for these positions are earning Silver Cord hours. I love seeing their commitment to making our music program a vital part of school and the larger community!

So many great reasons to make music!
How playing an instrument benefits your brain - Anita Collins
Featured Ensemble: JH Band
With the flooding in gym, we have rearranged ourselves into small groups, "houses"--named after some of the big composers: Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms. Our houses provide balance across the instruments and all students are ready to "swing in" if another student is absent. It won't be long, and we will be heading outside to play in the parking lot. Let's hope this early Spring really lasts!!
Fall 2020 in JH Gym
We began the year with socially-distanced music activities that included bucket drumming!
Fall 2020
Making the most of the Student Parking Lot & late Fall warm weather.
HS Gym Set up Winter 20/21
Thanks to volunteers, we were able to make masks and bell cover for every instrumentalist, Grades 6-12, allowing us to do some indoor playing.
