Edcamp Staff Meetings
- free to anyone
- participant-driven (the PD sessions are created live on the spot)
- about experience not expertise (we all have something to share)
- about the rule of two feet (you have choice - get up and walk out of a session if it isn't serving you)
Official Edcamps are large, often Saturday, workshops full of professional learning and networking opportunities. But the premise can be shrunk down to fit a staff meeting or smaller PD. Consider the following:
- You and your staff could brainstorm topics of interest that they want to explore
- Staff members choose which topic they are most interested in and they gather in a room together (each topic gets it's own room)
- Staff sit in a circle and discuss the topic. They have laptops/iPads out ready to take notes or share resources. What we do know or want to know about it? Is anyone using/ trying it? What resources do we have or need to make this work? How can we move forward?
- In any group, there is experience to be shared!
- If you have enough topics of interest, you can create a rotation where everyone gets to choose two topics to discuss.
Our District First Friday on March 6* will be similar in that teachers will get to hear from their peers and get to choose two sessions based on their interest. The difference is that for our First Friday, the presenters are chosen ahead of time and do prepare information to share. This is more formal than a typical Edcamp, in which no one comes with anything formal to share.
If you have tried an edcamp-like staff meeting, I'd love to hear about!
* Speaking about March 6, so far I've only had a FEW teachers contact me with an interest in being a presenter. If you have a stellar teacher would be a great presenter at our First Friday, please ask them to reach out to me!

Know My Story/ Know Our Story -- 5 Facts about Us
Jennifer McIntee, TOSA Inclusion Specialist
- My world are my two hilariously fun daughters, Talaya (27) and Leanne (20). We are very close and love to do events and travel together.
- I was a competitive swimmer growing up and once had my sights set on Olympics, however I chose the route of college education and teaching instead and began teaching at the age of 22, all 26 years in Special Education. When I find the time you’ll find me in a pool.
- My first job at age 15 was lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons; then I coached a summer league swim team. So I guess you can say water and teaching has always been a part of my life
- Sunshine is my favorite season as I am a sun seeker, so you can find me at my Arizona home near the Colorado River. I’ll be the one on Lake Mojave in my boat, loving the river life.
- Another one of my favorite places to travel is the Caribbean especially St. John, I love the warm underwater sea life and you can find me snorkeling for hours on end. My bucket list is to get my scuba license.
