Dare to Dream!
Empowering World Class Leaders and Life-Long Learners!
And....We have Winter!
As the weather is colder, please make sure that you have your child's name written in permanent marker in their jackets and coats. (Grade and teacher's name will also help a lot!) We love our focus on service learning, but always hate to see the wide selection of coats available in our Lost & Found!
Speaking of coats and clothes....You may have seen the big yellow wooden box located in the entranceway to our school. This is a spot for you to donate to our RRISD Clothes Closet. Gently worn clothes and new underwear/socks are always needed. Have a load to take to Goodwill? Drop it off at school instead! We have two locations in the district for people to go for clothes. One is located at Anderson Mill, and the other is at Voigt Elementary. See information at this link: RRISD Clothes Closet. Our PTA sponsors regular volunteer shifts at the Voigt location. For information, contact see our PTA webpage: Sommer PTA and fill out the Volunteer Interest Form to receive emails.

Student Led Parent Conference Survey
Our student-led conferences were a tremendous success and great way for our students to "own" and "share" their learning. We would greatly appreciate your input on how we can continue to make these conferences even more meaningful. Please take a minute to complete the survey! Student-Led Parent Conference Survey Thanks to those who have shared. Results will be shared soon!
Parent Referral Information Night for TAG Testing-Nov. 4
This meeting will cover information about our gifted program in RRISD and how we provide services at Sommer. We will cover the testing process, the timeline and steps parents need to take to refer their child for testing. For parents unable to attend, the presentation and timeline will be added to our TAG Team Website afterwards. It is not necessary to contact TAG teachers directly before referring a student.
Veterans Day
Veterans Day is extremely important to us at Patsy Sommer Elementary. As a staff and school community we have fathers, mothers, husbands, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, and cousins, as well as staff members themselves who have served our country. We love them and honor them.
We invite you to send pictures of your family members who have served in any of the armed forces for the many countries representing our school community. Forms are on our Sommer website and linked here: Veterans Wall Packet
We also invite all of our Stallion family veterans to join us for a reception beginning at 7:00 AM on Friday, Nov. 8. Our whole school assembly and celebration will follow at 7:40 with performances by our choir, honorary speakers and special introductions from our veterans and students. RSVP Here if you will be attending!
Additionally, we invite your students to write essays or draw pictures for Veterans Day focusing on What Does It Mean to be a Veteran. Entries need to be appropriate focusing on their bravery and sacrifice (any pictures with violence would not be appropriate). The due date will be next Tuesday, November 5th, by 12:00pm. Please send entries to the front office. Top entries will be chosen to read at the assembly on Nov. 8.
