The 10•
Thank you for a GREAT week back with scholars. We are off and running and have a packed semester so please take time to read our focus this week!
Tighten Up:
- SMILE! Be Happy! #BeELITEInYour20SquareFeet! Be intentional! You set the tone for your day by radiating positive energy and body language! Relationships trump EVERYTHING else. Scholars don't learn from people they don't like! You can have ELITE level expectations and still build relationships that impact!
- HALLWAYS: We need to ALL be out monitoring scholars during passing time. Please make it a priority to be out in the halls and monitoring students-- that will also help you greet them at the door.
- Please reflect on your closings at the end of each period. There shouldn't be enough time for scholars to be lining up at the door.
- Restrooms: Are all classes doing whole class restroom breaks? Let's begin to find ways that we can teach scholars how to use the restroom appropriately without taking the whole class and losing an enormous amount of time. This will be discussed in leadership.
- All Lesson Designs need to be turned into the book for feedback. Thank you for turning in your plans.
- Dress Code: Please make sure all attire is professional, even on jeans days.
- Jeans Passes will be on sale for the second semester beginning Monday 1/7. See Ms. Shelby. Jean Passes for the semester cost $25.00
- LIGHTS: Does lighting matter in the classroom? Consider how the lighting affects the moods, energy level of your scholars. There is an article I have included below. I would love your thoughts.
- The Innovation Center: We will begin our next session of The Innovation Center on Wednesday, January 23rd 7:35 AM. We will continue our focus on our Literacy/Writing Work and high yield instructional strategies! See below for our Innovation Schedule and topics
- Saturday Spectacular: Begins Saturday, January 26th. We will begin looking at the data to determine which scholars will be invited. The focus will be MATH and it will be taught by Ms. Meeks and Mrs. Simpson. If you have any questions or want to do what you can to do support this work, please see me.
- Don't forget to complete your #OneWord project FlipGrid and #OneWord project form for our wordle. Mr. Kicklighter will be working on our WORDLE posters this week.

#WhatImReading
#SoManyBooksThere is a reason I carry "Dare To Lead" with me everywhere I go. I am truly trying to hone and practice many of the strategies in the book. I find them to be practical and logical and they always bring me back to center. Remember: CLEAR is kind, UNCLEAR is unkind. We want to be CLEAR to our scholars about what our expectations are and the reason why we have these expectations is to GROW them! I want to be CLEAR about my expectations for our schoolhouse! You are going to hustle for scholars each day-- but we will have FUN doing it!
"We don't judge where we feel a strong sense of self-worth and grounded confidence, so the more of that we build, the more we let go of judgment."
I haven't started reading the Slight Edge yet, because another book made it's way to my desk and I think we will be able to use it in the work we do every day with our scholars. It is a PIRATE published newbie called: "Make Learning Magical" by Tisha Richmond. I have already talked to Mr. Kicklighter about some ideas and experiences that we will want to bring to life in our schoolhouse!
Understanding the buckets and how to WIN at GAPS is our focus! Targets are set!
