What's The Scoop At the Luce?
Hello Luce Friends & Families,
Last week was an amazing week filled with the Luce Musical and the 100th day of school! Please read this week's Smore for important information and updates.
Luce Musical Recognition
I want to sincerely thank all of the parent volunteers, Jenni Putnam, CAPT, our brilliant 4th & 5th-grade students, and the Luce Musical Leadership Team: Chris Untersee and Sarah Joncas. The musical was amazing and we couldn't have pulled it off without a team effort! We can't wait for next year's production.
SHINE Week is This Week! Please review the plan for each day.
- Monday, Wear Yellow Day: Students and staff are encouraged to wear the color yellow to represent the word SHINE.
- Tuesday, Extra Recess Day: Classes can choose to give their students 15 minutes of extra recess during the day.
- Wednesday, SHINE Super Hero Day: Students can be creative and wear clothes that match their interpretation of a SHINE superhero. The superhero should embody the core values of SHINE. Traditional costumes (i.e, Batman and Spiderman) are not allowed. An example of an appropriate outfit would be if a student made a cape and added the word SHINE on the back of it and was a SHINE superhero.
- Thursday, 30-min of free choice in Class: Students will have 30-min of free time in class.
- Friday, PJ & Slipper and Recess Dance Party Day: Students should come to school with their PJs and slippers. Students should wear slippers that can be worn outside. We encourage families to bring a backup pair of sneakers with their children to wear out at recess. A DJ will be at recess from 11-1 pm on the upper playground.

Luce CAPT Help (Repost)
Dear Luce Families,
We are in danger of losing the ability to do quality events and programs outside of school hours due to low volunteer turnout. Please feel free to send this to friends.
A brief description of the positions/events we need help with:
- CAPT Vice President- this is a critical need to help share the load of the current team. This person would help run meetings, set priorities, and work with the e-board to lead events with other CAPT volunteers. Time commitment is probably 4-5 hours per month.
- Evening Activity Coordinator- Plan an evening event for parents typically held in March or April. Past events have included trivia and raffles. Time commitment 8 hours including the event night.
- Fun Run Coordinator- This position is one of the most important right now. Each May CAPT hosts a Canton-wide 5K. This event really needs to get started with planning and logistics NOW. Time commitment is 10-15 hours.
- Fun Run event team- there are a lot of items needed to get through for the fun run. Having a large team of volunteers will help. The time commitment is about 10 hours.
- Luce Carnival Team- we are trying to bring this event back in March but if we don't get planning and moving soon it would be hard. We do have a coordinator but we need the team behind them. Time commitment is about 5-6 hours.
- Luce Event Flyer Creator- help the event teams by creating flyers and marketing for each event. Time commitment is about 1 hour per event. We have a CANVA pro account to do this on.
- Luce CAPT social media and website creator- update and maintain our web presence. Our website is google suite and we currently have one Facebook page.
Click here to fill out the google form for positions/interest in above
In addition to our needs above our 4th and 5th grade musical needs help. These opportunities can be held by any grade parent. In fact, it is helpful to have parents whose children are not involved in the show helping so that families can enjoy the performance. Our play is on 2/10 & 2/11. Click here for the signup genius.
Help needed includes:
- Ticket sales
- Concession sales/coordination (collecting donations, setting up etc)
- Cast-o-Gram Sales (creating the bags for each student, selling them at the event (preshow), and organizing them into bags for delivery at the cast party)
- Planning, Decorating, and Staffing the Cast party - if attending the party must be CORI'd and finger printed
- Green room supervision during the show- must get CORI'd and fingerprinted
