Two events from 1783-1800

These are some things that happened in this timeline!

Learning target #4

I can understand how culture maintains and develops society.

Definition of learning target #4:

Culture: Food, Clothing, Traditions, Language, Music, Art, Dance, Holidays, Religion

Maintain: Keep, Stay in place, Unified, Balanced, Strong

Develop: Create, Process, Change, Learn, Grow

Society: People, Community, System, Gov’t, Expectations

The 3/5 Compromise.

There was this thing called the Three Fifths Compromise. The Southern states were mad about not having the New Jersey plan, because they don't have a lot of population. So Congress decided to let slaves count as three fifths of a person towards the population. That mad the Southern states happy..... for now!

The culture that the southern states believe in are having people work for them. That is their beliefs, and how they think they can bring it into society. They want people to support their ideas!!!! They were trying to develop slavery into an everyone thing. They wanted their society bigger. That is how that relates to the learning target.

Gay Marriage

Some people despise gay marriage, just like people despised slavery. Are people that are gay considered a person to count towards the population. Of course they are people. Person is a living individual. Someone who has their own opinion. Gay marriage is someones culture, their society of people. They have their own strong relationship with the other person. Slavery is some peoples culture and society of slaves. That is one of the comparisons to the 3/5's compromise.

The Bill of Rights

The Bill of Rights is a document stating the Americans rights. The first right to all Americans is the right to have freedom of speech, press and religion. That means you can speak what you want, believe in what you want etc. These amendments helped all of the Americans get along better. It helped settle more compromises and finish the edge of a civil war........ for now. The Bill of Rights still plays a big part in America today!!

This portrays to the learning target because it shows how we became one whole country. IT helped unify us to one. This made our states stronger and work together more. It maintained the meaning of why we came here in the first place. These amendments keep us calm and not fighting about what we should believe in. They help us learn what not to do and what to do.

Gun control

This is the second amendment of the Bill of Rights. The Right to bear arms. IT's unifying us to help stop school shootings or mass shootings. People are coming together to stop all shootings. Some people want guns to be harder to receive, that way we will protect more people But then it is also telling people it's not the gun, it's the person behind it, therefore just keep it the same and run better background checks. Anyway, people still want guns to protect themselves, but they also want to stop the shootings. We are trying to figure out a way to do both. That is unifying us to a country once more.

All in All

So all in all, these two events kind of made a difference in todays society. The 3/5's person made a difference in Gay marriage, and the Bill of rights made a difference in the second amendment. People's beliefs are now different because of what happened in the 1700's-1800's. We are unified at this point in time.

In the Furture

I think in the future, people will be more accepting of Gay Marriage. Now that it has been going on for a long period of time, they will start to think of it as normal. Maybe the president can put in a law saying that people have the right to love the same gender. It's not a law right now, but it could be a law. Hopefully EVERYONE will think it''s accept the new law in the future.

As for the second amendment crisis, I personally think it might have the slightest chance of getting better. Not trying to pick sides or make a big deal about this, but maybe a new president will be better at figuring something out instead. Maybe he/she will decide that we need new enforcements. We need a better law that will protect more people. I don't know exactly what that law would be though. If we really work with the new president, it might have a chance to get better. You never know until it happens.
