Hathaway Community,

December is a month filled with a lot of cultural, educational and seasonal activities for our students, staff and community. We are busy here at Hathaway providing the gifts of education and learning as we all look forward to beginning 2022!

There is a lot going on in our world and I want to make sure you know that the Hueneme Elementary School District and Hathaway will continue to do everything we can to keep our students, staff and community safe. Please remember students should not come to school if they have any COVID-19 related Symptoms such as:

  • Runny Nose/Congestion

  • Cough

  • Sore Throat

  • Headache

  • Fatigue/Muscle or Body Aches

  • Fever above 99.5 degrees

  • Loss of Smell/Taste

  • Difficulty Breathing

Free Digital Library Now Available for All Students!

All K-12 students in California now have free access to a huge library of digital books to help improve literacy and build a love for reading.


The California Department of Education has partnered with Renaissance Learning to make their myON digital library free for the months of December and January. The myON library has thousands of books for all grade levels in English and Spanish that can be read on computers, tablets and phones.


To sign up, visit www.myon.com. For the school name, enter Gift of Literacy and use myon for the username and read for the password.

Hathaway Holiday Happenings

Student and Staff Safety at Hathaway

Reminder to all that we will be continuing to practice safety first for all staff and students:


Temperature screenings will be conducted before students enter their classrooms.


Please screen your child at home each day for fever or symptoms and do not send your child to school if he/she is symptomatic or sick.

Free COVID Testing Sites! Change in hours

Due to a decrease in the number of daily COVID testing at our testing sites, we are going to change the hours of operation.


Testing is available to all HESD staff and students ONLY. The testing site is paid through special state grant funds, therefore it is NOT available to the public, including staff and student family members who are not associated with the District.


Please read the attached letter from HESD for more information.

Two testing locations:


  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Blackstock Junior High School, 701 E. Bard Road
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: Haycox Elementary School, 5400 Perkins Road


Testing hours are 12:00 pm. - 4:00 pm. at each location. Both testing sites are walk-up only, no appointments necessary.


To register your Hathaway student for COVID testing please click HERE. This link is ONLY for Hathaway students. Students only need to register once before the first time they take a COVID test at a district site.

Hathaway Neighborhood For Learning Classes available now!

A child’s brain develops faster from birth to age three than at any other period in life, building the foundation for a child’s future learning, behavior, and health. First 5 Neighborhoods for Learning (NfLs) are helping families raise children who are healthy, nurtured, and prepared for kindergarten supporting children prenatal through age five and their families.

Hathaway community, please ensure that our students arrive to campus no later than 8 am. Arriving on time allows students time to walk to their line and be ready to be picked up by their teacher. Students should be in their seats by 8:05 am. Students arriving after 8:05 are marked marked tardy.

Parents and guardians, students, educators, support personnel, and community members are invited to join us for the 2022 VCOE Equity Conference. This free virtual event will include workshops addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices for marginalized students. There will also be opportunities for community networking plus door prizes.
