We are currently in YELLOW. All students in 3rd through 5th grade and all staff members must wear masks until we return to Green. Thank you.

Red Ribbon Week-starts Tuesday, October 26th!

Since our closure disrupted Red Ribbon Week, we wanted to make sure we rescheduled the days so students can still participate! The new dates are outlined below. You may also read the information attached from the Finch Family regarding Dwarfism Awareness Month. Thank you!

Report Cards and Parent Teacher Conferences-happening this week!

Quarter 1 ended on October 15th, and report cards will be sent home tomorrow, Tuesday, October 26th. They are also available in ParentVUE.

Please see this letter (linked here) regarding Standards Aligned Report Cards and how we make use of them at FLE. We do not grade using the traditional A, B, C's and instead use a 4, 3, 2, 1 rubric that indicates how a student performs with specific skills and standards.

Parent Teacher conferences are October 28th and 29th and there will be no school for students on those days. If there are any concerns or questions you have regarding your student, please take advantage of these conference times. The teachers have been preparing to share your student's progress with you!

More information regarding the FLE Book Fair is attached below and will be coming home in paper form tomorrow, October 26th. Your student will be able to create a wish list when they come with their classes to look at the book fair and bring money with them to shop. You may also shop with your student by taking advantage of one of the following options:

• The book fair will be open on all day (9am-5pm) on 10/28 (NO SCHOOL for students/conferences) Stop by before or after your conferences.

• Email Mrs. Smith (pamela.smith@matsuk12.us) to make an after school appointment (3:45-4:15pm) This will guarantee your 15 minute spot. To eliminate any of our shoppers becoming a COVID close contact, we have to limit your shopping trip to 15 minutes.

Remember, reading every day is key to building up your brain for important tasks! If you read a picture book each day with your student, by the time they are 10 years old they will have read over 3,000 books! Wowzas!

Title I pays for that?

Title I funds are provided to our school because we have a number of students that qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. Title I funding makes several activities, programs, and positions possible at Finger Lake, but we need family participation In order to maintain our Title I status. We are asking families to fill out applications for Free and Reduced Lunch. This year, ALL students are being provided free lunch (wahoo!) and FLE is currently still qualified for the program. However, we are not guaranteed the funding each year. If you have a moment, would you mind filling one out? It is attached below! And in case you are wondering, here are some things that Title I funds pay for at FLE:

-our phenomenal Guidance Counselor, Ms. Lisa Burke!

-our fantastic tutor advisor/recess monitor/building support staff, Ms. Blair Hesley!

-ALEKS, Lexia, and Read Naturally subscriptions!

-After school events, like Trunk or Treat and Bingo for Books!

-Technology refreshers, like laptops and cords for both in school and remote learning!

-Professional Development for our staff!

-Books for our library!

and so much more!

Thank you for taking a moment to support our school! Below is the link to the MSBSD Nutrition Services page. You can login to your School Cafe account to fill out an application or you can pick one up from the front office at Parent Teacher Conferences (or any time). Thank you!

Falcon Feathers!

Students can earn Falcon Feathers from any staff member or classmate in the building! These serve as recognition of students showing H.E.A.R.T., and they are proudly displayed in our front lobby for the entire month! Encourage your student to recognize when they are showing H.E.A.R.T. and when they see it in others!
