I hope you all are doing well! We have a few updates this week!

  • Elementary: If you want to switch between VLS or in-person please contact the Student Placement Center 651-632-3760 or
  • Middle School: If you want to opt-out of In Person Support please fill out the following form:
  • Middle School In-Person Support will begin is Monday, February 22nd. Students will come 1 day per week. More information to come to middle school families next week.

Doing Good Together

Please save the date for our annual community service fair, Doing Good Together! The event will look different this year, but we still plan to offer a variety of educational opportunities and hands-on projects in a virtual format. The focus, as always, will be on spreading kindness. The event is scheduled for Thursday, March 18th from 6-7:30pm. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the event! Middle School Schedule Update

Middle School On-Site Support Begins Monday!

Students who are attending should have received a communication about their assigned day. More information below:

What to Bring?

iPad (charged!) Backpack, Pencils/Pen, Notebook, anything else they need for their classes. Students will not use lockers, nor will they be able to keep materials at school each week.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up

Students are dropped at parent drop on Concordia at 9:15 am. Students will be picked up at the Green doors on Mackubin at 12:00 pm.

If students ride the bus they will load the bus at 12:00 pm, and if they walk they will leave walking at 12:00 pm.


Students will enter the Blue doors, grab breakfast to go and proceed to the left to go up the Blue stairs. Adults will be in the hallway to assist.

More Information about on-site support:

Students who attend an in-person day will work in a small group with a teacher. They will review student workload, help come up with plans for working with teachers on their assignments and provide social-emotional support as well. Students will attend their synchronous sessions beginning at 10:05-10:55 and 11:00-11:50, but they will also have additional opportunities for support in-person during these times as well.

A few reminders:

  • In-person academic support will have Middle School students coming to school 1 day per week in 4 cohort groups from 9:30-12. This means we will have a smaller number of students per classroom.
  • Students will work with a teacher to review what they need to work on, which subjects they need assistance with, and schedule time with a teacher from that subject for support.

When students are on-campus they will remain 6 feet apart from one another and wear masks. For more information regarding safety guidelines please see this page.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures!

We have had a great first three weeks with elementary students! A few reminders:

  • Bus Drop Off
    • Buses begin to unload at 9:15am
    • Cougar staff will greet the driver and students as they depart the bus
    • This staggers arrival for students and ensures breakfast to go and locker areas do not get congested
  • Parent Drop Off
    • Along Concordia Ave
    • Follow the blue signs
    • Pull as far forward as possible
    • Do not stop at the stairs!
    • No parking
    • Do not have students cross Mackubin Ave
    • If you are dropping off along Mackubin to walk students to the front door use the building side of Mackubin
    • Mackubin Ave is not an official Capitol Hill drop off location
  • Elementary Dismissal
    • Students release is staggered
      • Ensures there is not congestion in
    • Parent pickup
      • By the MLK Doors
    • Discovery Club
      • Inside the Rondo Complex
  • Elementary Parent Pickup
    • Park along Mackubin or the side streets around Capitol Hill
    • Exit vehicle to go near the blue cones
    • Find a Cougar staff member with a radio, they will call inside to have your child come to you
    • Students will exit the doors by the MLK Tennis Courts
  • Elementary Bus Departure
    • All students exit the green doors along Mackubin with their class
    • Students get on the bus and take a seat
    • Buses may have assigned seating
    • Buses depart Capitol Hill by 4:07

COVID Checklist for Students

Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) follows guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. SPPS addresses infection control by cleaning and disinfecting our facilities and by promoting prevention techniques of social distancing, wearing cloth masks, frequent hand washing, and staying home when sick.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) requires that all schools put systems in place for staff and families to report symptoms of COVID-19, a positive test for COVID-19, or a close contact exposure to COVID-19.

SPPS needs your help in controlling the spread of COVID-19 by identifying and reporting concerns early and following recommended exclusion guidelines.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include: fever greater than or equal to 100.4° F, new onset and/or worsening cough, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell OR at least 2 of the following: sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle pain, excessive fatigue, new onset of headache, new onset of nasal congestion or runny nose.

Answer the following four questions each morning before sending your child to school:

  • Did my child recently test positive for COVID-19?
  • Does my child have any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed above?
  • Does my child live with someone who is being tested for COVID-19 or showing symptoms of COVID-19?
  • Did my child have close contact (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) with someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19?

If you answered YES to any of the above:

  • Do not send your child to school, report your child’s absence, and contact your child’s healthcare provider.
  • Report your child’s symptoms or exposure using the online SPPS COVID-19 Reporting System.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after being exposed to the COVID-19 virus. Not everyone with COVID-19 has all of these symptoms, and some people may not have any symptoms. Talk to your health care provider and seek medical care immediately with any of the following emergency warning signs for COVID-19:
  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face

The SPPS Health Screening tool is posted at all SPPS building entryways along with masking reminders. In addition to monitoring your child’s health, our health staff additionally rely on experienced staff to help identify signs of illness or changes in behavior in students to prevent the spread of disease.
