Workshop Description & Overview
Date: November 29, 2018 @ Indian Lake Middle School - Media Center
Target Audience: ELA, Science & Social Studies Teachers (Grades 5-12) and instructional coaches working with teachers in the subjects areas and grade levels listed above.
Overview: In this session, we’ll explore a menu of ideas that incorporates informational text with time-honored instructional strategies. The day will include book talks that feature newly released nonfiction titles, plus a micro-session focused on reading graphs, maps, and infographics.
Participants are asked to bring a fully charged laptop/Chromebook & charger with them to the session.
Faculty/Instructor: Tanny McGregor
Tanny has been teaching and learning in Cincinnati for more than two decades. She is a staff developer, a nationally-known keynoter and workshop presenter, and a member of Heinemann Professional Development Services. In addition to Comprehension Connections and Genre Connections, she is a coauthor of the Heinemann title Comprehension Going Forward.

Registration Fees:
- $125 for Hardin, Shelby, Logan, Madison, and Champaign County Public School Districts, Boards of DD, & Career Centers.
- $175 for school districts outside of the above counties or other agencies/non-profits.
Contact Hours & Graduate Credit:
- Contact Hours: Six (6) Contact Hours Provided by the MRESC
- Graduate Credit Available? Yes - Contact hours from this event may be utilized toward a semester hour** of graduate credit. **Additional details, including eligibility criteria, will be provided at the workshop. Each semester hour of credit must be purchased separately through Ashland University at a rate of $235 per credit hour.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION & REMINDERS
What time should I arrive at the training site? Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the check-in process.
Food & Beverage: Bottled water and assorted breakfast bars will be available at the beginning of each session. While coffee or other food will not be served, participants are free to bring snack items for themselves or to share with the group. Lunch will be on your own. Please plan accordingly…..
What You Should Bring? Participants should bring note taking materials and writing utensils with them to the session. Attendees should also bring a fully charged laptop or Chromebook (and a charger) with them to the session.
Our Cancellation Policy - Due to the costs associated with this event, cancellations must be received 30 days prior to the event. Cancellations received outside of this policy will not be accepted. Attendees and/or employing districts will be billed accordingly.
Weather Contingency Policy: Participants should plan to arrive unless they receive a formal “CLOSURE / CANCELLATION” email from the Midwest Regional ESC on the morning of the event.
