RAM
What is it and how does it work?
What Does It Mean?
RAM is an acronym (shortened way of saying and writing) Random Access Memory.
What Is It?
RAM is one type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly. It is also the most common type of computer memory found in electronical devices. There are two type of RAM:
DRAM - Dynamic Random Access Memory
SRAM - Static Random Access Memory
Why Do We Use DRAM More Than SRAM?
DRAM is the more common type because it is cheaper, however is not as fast as SRAM which is very fast and very expensive. We use DRAM for this reason as not many people can affored have SRAM in their computer despite it sometimes being better. DRAM also has to be refreashed often which makes it slower where as SRAM doesn't. In some sence, DRAM is like a pet's water bowl: it has to be refreashed often.
Both types of RAM are volatile (shut down when the computer is turned off).
This is what the RAM part of a computer looks like.
