Thirteen Reasons Why
"Everything... affects everything."
Plot Summary
Clay Jensen is just a regular high school student until a classmate of his dies. But her death wasn't on accident--it was on purpose. She killed herself. And when a package full of tapes with his name on the front arrive at his doorstep he's surprised. He hears Hannah Baker's voice on the tapes, the girl that committed suicide and left her school, friends, and family to grieve. He doesn't want anything to do with the tapes--Hannah's dead and the remains of her should be gone too right? Clay almost stops the tape until he hears the infamous voice again, this time telling him that he received the tapes for a reason, because he was a reason, one of the thirteen reasons why she killed herself.
Character Analysis
Clay Jensen is the main character in this book. His POV is one of the main two that tells the story throughout the whole book. He's the narrator through some of the last words from Hannah on the tapes. He's a very emotional, quiet kid at school that kids don't pay much attention too--other than Hannah.Clay is a goody-goody according to Hannah and not a single bad thing is to be heard about him--ever. He's an only child who has had a crush on Hannah since he can remember and when he realizes she's gone he's devastated. In the book, you follow his emotions and how he takes the tapes when he reaches his part in the story.
