Second Grade News
Week of January 8
Welcome Back!
We are back into the swing of things. Here is an update of what we have been up to.
- In reading we are learning all about Fairy Tales and their unique characteristics. We are also learning about comparing and contrasting stories and how to prove our answers by finding text-based evidence. We are working on reading many different versions of the same story and comparing and contrasting the stories.
- Later this week we will be learning how to find text-based evidence to support our opinion. We will be writing our opinion about the "Big Bad Wolf." Is he really bad? Stay tuned...
- In math we are beginning our geometry unit. We are refreshing our memory of the words vertices, edges, and faces.
- We finished up a mini unit on states of matter. We made models of how the molecules look in each state of matter, sorted different objects into their various states of matter, and identified the different states of matter in the rootbeer floats we made.
Second Half Reading Awards
- For every hour read and recorded outside of school, the students will receive a colored paper chain link. As a class, we are going to see how long we can make our chain and how many hours outside of school we can read.
- In order for the students to receive a link, their reading logs must be signed by a parent or adult. Students must turn their minutes in every day. Please make sure that your child is bringing their take-home folder home and bringing it back to school every day! Thanks!!
