Preventing Suffocating
Be aware
While Sleeping
Make sure your child's crib is empty: remove all soft bedding, pillows, toys and stuffed animals from the crib. Do not let your child sleep on a top bunk bed if he or she is under the age of six.
Around toys
- Check for hazards such as latex balloons, toys that are small and have pieces that can come off, pacifiers (especially with strings), broken toys, age-appropriate toys, and ribbons or string.
Pictures
- Keep all plastic bags, including garbage bags and sandwich-style plastic bags out of the reach of young kids.
- Never put an infant down on a mattress covered with plastic or on or near a plastic bag.
- Don't put an infant to sleep on an adult bed, couch, or other soft surface.
