Cougar Connection

Message from Mrs. Tryon

Together, we are having an amazing September at Keith! Please read through this Cougar Connection for important information. I will continue to keep you updated on the first of every month via this electronic form of communication. Additionally, a paper calendar of events will go home with each student and it too, will be embedded in this monthly newsletter. I do not want you to be overwhelmed with emails; however, I do want you to be informed. There has been a pattern of information changing frequently, so I will communicate with you as often as necessary to keep you up-to-date. Thank you for reading each monthly Cougar Connection. Let's stay connected!

Important information for the 2nd 9 weeks grading period:

Parents, If you would like to make a change to the learning option for your child(ren) for the 2nd grading period--from CFISD Connect to On-Campus or from On-Campus to CFISD Connect--the selection window will be open between Monday, September 28 and Sunday, October 4. This change will be effective November 9 for elementary students. You will receive a follow-up email on Monday, September 28, with instructions on how to make the change. If your child is continuing with the same learning option for the 2nd grading period, then no action is required. With the anticipated increase of students selecting face to face at Keith, your child's homeroom teacher could change. We will make every effort to keep changes at a minimum for a smooth transition for staff and students. Please know that the safety of our students and our staff is a top priority

Progress Reports

Students' academic progress is formally provided mid-way through each of the 9 week grading periods. For grades 2nd-5th, parents will electronically access progress reports on October 9th through the "Home Access Center" (HAC). For PK, Kinder and 1st, this will look different as the district does not house the progress reports for the primary grades in HAC. On October 9th, the teachers will send home the progress reports for their face to face learners. Teachers will email a copy of the progress report to parents for all CFISD Connect students.

Thank you!

Keith parents are awesome! Your collaboration and support of our new health and safety protocols is evident by seeing our Cougars "mask-up" consistently. We couldn't do this without you.

Sock-Hop 20-21

Our tradition of hosting the annual Sock Hop event will continue this school year but look a bit different. This year, we will have a Sock Hop dress up day. On October 30th please pull out your best 50's duds and join us in celebrating this fun tradition. Due to the pandemic, we will not host the evening event, however, staff and students will have a scaled-down celebration on campus. Students will be grooving to 50's music and in PE students will be engaged in some of the same games and activities that we all enjoy at the Sock Hop. This will take place during the school day during large group. Due to social distancing, there will be no visitors this day. If you are new to Keith, check out these pictures below for Sock Hop attire!

Credit by Exam Information

Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.

To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.

Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
