From Mrs. H:
The Hoot is scheduled for January 30, 2016. The time to get started on our classroom project is nearing. If you have an awesome idea (Pinterest, your creative mind, etc), please share with me. I'm still looking for a one-of-a-kind idea. Email me ideas this week, please!
Please take some time over the long weekend to replenish missing school supplies. As a class, we are in need of more pencils. If anyone wants to donate a box of basic #2 pencils, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for meeting with me during our scheduled parent/teacher conference times. Remember that you don't need a conference to voice any concerns! I am always available and want to know if you have questions, so email anytime!
What's Happening?
Math: We will practice multiplying 3 factors this week. We will have math stations on Tues/Thursday. On Wednesday, we will take a quiz over the various multiplication concepts/strategies we have learned. Friday will allow for some enrichment time! Please keep studying those multiplication facts. Timed fact quizzes take place every Tuesday and Friday. We are going to start focusing on different problem solving strategies. This week, all of our journal problems will focus on the guess and check strategy.
Reading: To coincide with upcoming elections, we will read the basal story Vote! this week. The vocab and AR quizzes over the story will be taken on Friday. Lit circles will meet on Tuesday and Friday. We are also starting a weekly standardized test prep packet this week. We will usually complete these on Wednesdays during class time. We are going to be learning about the different types of connections we make to text as readers this week. We are also beginning (my favorite of all time) read aloud, Wonder, by RJ Palacio this week! If you haven't read it, I recommend it. It will provide great discussion points for you and your 3rd grader.
Writer's Workshop: We are beginning paragraphs of the week in school this week. To start off, we will be writing a paragraph this week about our preference on caramel apples vs. candied apples. This is will provide a great intro into persuasive writing, which we will be focusing on in November.
English: We will begin chapter 4 this week. DOL quiz on Friday. We will also spend Wednesday's class time talking about prefixes and suffixes to help us become experts in picking them out in words. This is a skill that the I-Read test assesses 3rd graders on too! We are continuing our study of idioms by learning a new idiom each day.
Spelling: long e patterns, tic tac toe due Thursday, test Friday
Science: measurement
Social Studies: Earth's resources
Health: We will be starting the circulatory system this week. With Halloween approaching, when better of a time to talk about blood than this week?!
Religion: verse to be memorized by Thursday
