WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Washington Elementary School held its 3rd Annual Career Day on February 28, 2020. The objective of this day was to provide students from several schools (Sunset Middle, North Central, Opelousas Middle, Palmetto Elementary and Opelousas High), with a dynamic and tangible experience that facilitates a connection between their academic pursuits and potential professional endeavors in the future. Business owners and professionals offered advice and information on the occupations through hand-outs and presentations. Vendors that participated and made the event possible were, Mayor of Washington, Williams Funeral Home, Attorney Ogden Pitre, St Landry Parish Library, Crime Stoppers, Jeweler Cleopatra Wood, Good Hands, Slemco, Honeycomb Barbershop, LHCC, Healthy Blue, UL, St Landry Fire Department, Army Forces, Rev. Dale Fontenot, WCTEC, SLCC, CASA, and No Limit Car Audio. WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY staff wants to think every vendor for making this event special to the students of Saint Landry Parish. Students had a tremendous amount of fun as they explored the world of work with productive careers. Also, the event encourages students to explore their interests and passions as an extension of the academic program and in the process of better understanding themselves, the community, and the world. WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY Career Day provided a platform to develop meaningful and personal connections between our students and the professional world. #slpproud
