Winding Down to Winter Break...
We earned a TRANSITION TALLY EXTRA RECESS today. If we (as a class) collect 15 tallies for quick and organized transitions between activities, we get a tally. When we collect 15, we earn an extra recess. These quick transitions help us accomplish so much more throughout our days.
We were sad to say goodbye to Sophie this afternoon. She will be traveling for the next few weeks and won't be at school next week.
Thank you to Melanie Urban and the wonderful party committee for all you are doing to make our party special next week. We hope to see many of you next Friday, December 20, as we celebrate our last day of school in 2019!
Don't forget... if you have questions about something that is happening in Room 9, visit the Padlet. It is anonymous and I answer questions very quickly!
SHHHH....Don't forget about the surprise treat for your child on Monday, December 16. If you could hide it in a spot in his/her backpack (a place they never look), that would be perfect! I'll get some pictures of this fun activity for you to enjoy!
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend! Go COLTS!!

A few student highlights from our week:
- Gabby scored 16 points at her basketball game last weekend!
- Maren and Ady are on the same cheerleading team. They won first place in their competition last weekend.
- Ethan asked me if he could sing a song to the class. He brought in his equipment and stood in front of the class during Community Circle as he sang his song. Wow!
- Ben got a BIG compliment during Community Circle from Chris about how he showed leadership while playing Gaga Ball! I love it when students recognize each other for their outstanding behavior!
Next Week - December 16-20
Reading: Nonfiction
- Each student chose a biography of their choice. They are reading it each day and completing questions and recording their thinking, writing questions, and keeping track of difficult vocabulary to help them understand the importance and significance of their "person." We will wrap this up next week.
Math: Unit 4 - Operations
- We will REVIEW for the Unit 4 Test on Monday, December 16. Look for a study guide to come home Monday evening.
- The Unit 4 Test will be given Tuesday & Wednesday, December 17-18. Feel free to allow your child to bring a drink to school on one of those days.
- I have been busy assessing each student for report cards. I spend time individually with each child assessing specific skills on the report card. I feel like I have a really good understanding of each student's skill level on each standard assessed.
Writing: Information Writing (Expository)
- Students are finishing up the drafting/revising/editing part of their writing. Their pieces reflect a lot of learning and hard work! We hope to have them published in Adobe Spark by next Friday, December 20. I will grade them over Winter Break and return the rubric to your child upon their return to school on January 7.
