Principal's Message
Hello Panther Family,
The Georgia Department of Education has recognized 45 district schools for supporting a positive school climate through the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Of those schools,16 FCS schools received the ‘Distinguished’ recognition for the 2021-2022 school year, highlighting a substantial increase over the nine schools designated when results last came out before the pandemic. Asa G. Hilliard earned DISTINGUISHED!
In addition to the 16 Distinguished schools, the district has 28 Operational schools, which represents 48 percent of district schools implementing PBIS at the highest levels possible.
PBIS is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, schools teach kids about behavior expectations and strategies. PBIS is proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. In our school you can see and feel PBIS in many ways and we continue to learn and grow to maintain our status!

We had a wonderful week celebrating Red Ribbon Week with all of our dress up days. Our Book Character dress up day is always a favorite. Seeing the Grouchy Ladybug, Pinkalious, Penny and the Magic Puffballs, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Spiderman, Captain America, and so many more. Thank you for making this week special for all of our scholars!
Below are some important information to help you prepare for the week ahead.
- Halloween- As you know Halloween falls on Monday this year. At school we will not celebrate the holiday with costumes or passing out candy. This is to ensure the focus remains on instruction. Students should not wear a costume to school, bring candy or share candy with their peers. All items will be confiscated and returned home to the families to share after school. Stay tuned for information about our Winter Holiday Celebrations in December
- Device Deployment- The time is here! We have begun device deployment. Students in grades 3-5 will be issued a device to utilize both at school and at home. Devices will remain at school on the day prior to any major assessment. For ALL students to be issued a device families must sign the user agreement in Infinite Campus under documents. Students in K-2 will have usage of devices while at school. Parents and families still must sign a user agreement so their scholar can use the technology. The flyer for information is below.
- November 8th- Remote Learning Day- Coming up November 8th, all FCS schools will engage in a remote learning day. Students will receive their focuses/assignments on Monday, November 7th to complete and engage in on November 8th. All work from that day is to be completed by November 9th
Family Engagement Month – “Family Matters”- November is National Family Engagement month. Join us for "Family Matters," a celebration of FCS families and their role in the education and well-being of their students. There will be interactive workshops, hands-on activities, vendors, entertainment, giveaways, free food, and a few special guests! Students may attend one or all events at four locations from November 14 through November 17. Please RSVP by November 1. The following schools (with links to Eventbrite) are hosting events for the entire district:
- Banneker High School (November 14)
