What is happening in our STEAM Clubs?

There are Stealth Sciences STEAM Clubs going on at Anderson - Crawford Elementary, Hunter Elementary, Midnight Sun Elementary, North Pole Elementary, Midnight Sun Elementary, Ben Eielson Jr. High, and North Pole Middle School for the Spring 2023!

February Frolic Juniors Dog Race, Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at Musher’s Hall

Registration opens at 11AM. Closes at 11:30AM. First race at 12 noon.

Race distances: 6-dog = 6.2 mi, 4-dog and 3-dog = 4.8 mi, 2-dog = 1.1 mi, 1-dog = 1/4 mi

This is the 2nd Rubik's Cube competition in Alaska! Anyone that knows how to solve a Rubik's Cube can compete and everyone is welcome to spectate. Register through the World Cube Association site and we'll see you there to cube under the northern lights! For more information, click here.

The feature race will be a 550-mile race running from Fairbanks following the traditional quest trail to Eagle, and then finish along the Taylor Highway through Chicken, Alaska, concluding in Tok, Alaska. The second race will be shorter, 300 miles, running strictly on the traditional trail. The third race will be a "fun run" consisting of 80 miles running from Fairbanks to Pleasant Valley and back. Located in the heart of Alaska, Fairbanks; The Tanana Valley Fairgrounds is home to the World Championships. Each year, the finest sculptors from around the world compete in the most challenging prestigious ice sculpting competition.

Friends of Creamer's Field provides a venue for community involvement through education programs, signature events and guided interpretive nature walks. Our programs focus on the natural ecology of the refuge and the history of Creamer's Dairy.

The Midnight Sun Gold Run will be held on February 18 & 19, 2023 at the Jeff Studer Race Grounds in Fairbanks. Race starts at 11:00 a.m

  • 2 dog skijoring – 6.2 miles/day
  • 4 dog sled – 6.2 miles/day
  • 6 dog sled – 8 miles/day
  • 10 dog sled – 12.5 miles/day

And don’t forget to dress in purple for the purple challenge 😉 Awesome prizes for the top 3!

Fairbanks Arts Association invites Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD) affiliated students in grades K–12 to submit to the Up With Art (Reimagined) student art exhibition!

365 SMART (Science, Math, Art, Recreation, and Technology) Academy

UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning created the 365 SMART Academy, which provides virtual and in-person enrichment courses for K-12 students to supplement their academic curriculum.


Spring semester 2023 has 33 different exciting courses over two 6-week sessions that begin in March 20-April 28. Check out the extensive variety of learning opportunities! Homeschooled families can follow up with your homeschool to see how to build your selection into your child's learning plans.


Registration deadline is March 12, 2023.

Contests

The premise of this year's challenge is simple: design and build a device that can pick up a ping pong ball at a distance and return it to the starting line. The device has to be built using only the specified materials, but there are lots of design approaches students can take to solve the challenge.


Submissions will be accepted February 19-March 19, 2023, but all the resources you need are available for students to start planning, designing, building, and testing their Ping Pong Pickup tools now!

2023 Writing Contest for 3rd - 12th grade Students

Write a piece that shows how female and/or non-white engineers have contributed to or can enhance engineering’s great achievements.

The Alaska State Council on the Arts (ASCA) invites artists of all ages to submit their design for the 2023 Artistic License Plate Competition. The winning design will be distributed and sold at DMVS across the state through 2027. The spirit of this competition is to encourage creativity, celebrate our unique experiences living in Alaska, and highlight the importance of engaging with art in our daily lives. ASCA administers this competition in keeping with their mission to advance creativity as a core civic value and identity for Alaska. Semi-finalists will receive a $250 honorarium, and the selected artist will be awarded $1000. Additionally, applicants under the age of 18 are eligible for a $50 honorarium, awarded by grade level.

Lockheed Martin CYBERQUEST® Competition for High School Students

CYBERQUEST® is Lockheed Martin's annual high school cyber competition. The goal of the competition is to encourage high school students to pursue careers in cybersecurity.

Teaching Climate Change Essentials (6-Week PD)

Teaching Climate Change Essentials is a facilitated, online teacher professional development designed to equip kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school teachers with the knowledge, skills and resources to integrate climate change into their existing curriculum, regardless of their subject area.
