Spring Garden Elementary PTA
Week of March 21st
Hello all!!!!
Can you believe how fast this year is flying by? We hope that everyone had a great Spring break and now you are ready to get back in the the swing of things. There is a lot going on over the next two and half months. We will do our best to continue to make sure that you are up to date on all the latest events happening at Spring Garden.
Even though we only have 2 weeks left of March they will be busy.
Tonight, March 22nd, is spirit night at Hwy 55 Burgers. They will donate 10% of all purchases from 5:00 - 9:00 pm to SGE. Come have a burger and support your school.
Spring is always the start of STAAR testing. The first testing will take place on Tuesday, March 29th and Wednesday, March 30th. Although the campus will be on shut-down we need to send the students in on a good start. If you are available, we would love for you to join us at the front door with a encouraging poster or just a high five for the students. The buses arrive at 7:20 and we will be welcoming the students in until 8:00 am. These testing days are difficult and we want to send the students and teachers into class with a smile and little encouragement to show them we are behind them. Please join us to support our students!!!
Fine Arts night is scheduled for next Thursday night, March 31st at 6:00 pm. The night will start off with a short PTA meeting in which we will be electing the Executive Board for 2016-2017 school year. Following the meeting, the Kindergarten and CKPK Program will check off the Fine Arts activities.
Nominating Committee for Spring Garden Elementary submits the following nominees to the membership for election of the 2016-17 PTA board:
President: Crystal Sadler
VP of Membership/Volunteers: Lynn Head
VP of Programs: Missy Garcia
VP of Fundraising: Angela Pacheco
Secretary: Yvonne Hall

Feed the Pack
Please help us Feed the Pack! The annual FEED THE PACK 5K and 1 mile fun run at Spring Garden Elementary was created to raise money for our Backpack Program. Through this program, our qualified families in need receive a backpack full of nonperishable food that goes home w/ the student each weekend and over school holidays. This food feeds not only the SGE student(s), but all siblings under 18 who live in the same home. The funds raised are kept in the PTA's account and are spent to purchase food from the Food Bank. Our counselor, Robina King, distributes the backpacks to the eligible students each Friday and the backpacks come back the following Monday to be refilled.
These backpacks mean everything to some of our students. Some students have expressed how important the food is to their families. This program really does make a great difference!

Box Tops
BOX TOPS CONTINUE TO BE A SUCCESS!
Spring Garden families, we are doing a GREAT JOB of collecting Box Tops this year! We have one more chance to make your Box Tops count towards the 2015-16 school year. Please continue to check your packages and boxes as you enjoy your cereal, your fruit juice, your frozen vegetables, your yogurt, and your granola bars. There are so many brands that participate in Box Tops, they’re in virtually every aisle of the grocery store, even the organic food aisle — and also every room of your house. If you’re the kind of person that would pick up loose change you found on the floor, then you’re the kind of person that collects Box Tops. Together, just two or three Box Tops at a time, we’ve collected over a thousand dollars this year! That’s money spent directly on materials that benefit YOUR students. Way to go!
Remember these are products you’re buying anyway — just clip the Box Tops first. Easy! Grandparents and relatives can collect too! For more information, and for great coupons, visit www.btfe.com.
We also collect UPCs for Labels for Education. These can be found primarily on Campbell’s cans (of soup and stock), Pepperidge Farm packages (Goldfish crackers, cookies, breads), V8 (juices and snacks) and Pace/Prego (salsas and pasta sauces). A list of products can be found at www.labelsforeducation.com.
HOW TO SEND THEM IN
Box Tops and Labels should be delivered to the Treasure Chest in the front office. You can attach them to a flyer, or you can leave them loose in a small envelope or bag. You don’t have to count them. You don’t have to trim them. Incomplete flyers accepted! We’ll collect everything and submit it together. That’s it! And each student that brings in 25 gets cool spirit stick swag!
INTERESTED IN HELPING?
We could use a couple of volunteers to help with the packaging and submission. All it would take is a commitment of an hour a week. For more information, call or text Vy at (214)707-8135.
