New Member Induction Ceremony

The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

This month, AHS welcomed 45 new members to our chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. The annual induction ceremony took place on March 17th.

As part of the ceremony, the 8th grade service projects were highlighted. Each year, following NJHS national guidelines, Honor Society Chapters throughout the country collectively dedicate countless hours to school and community service projects as well as fundraisers for local, national, and international charities. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of service.

Thanks to Ms. Bonvetti for putting together a very nice ceremony for parents and family.

Lip Sync Battle at AHS!!

The first ever Lip Sync Battle was hosted by the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Over $600 was collected at the door, which was donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Members of the NJHS also held a food drive that night, resulting in almost 500 food items being donated to the Food Bank of South Jersey.

There were student and teacher acts, and everyone had a great time!

Saving Lives - Annual Blood Drive

AHS' annual blood drive was held on March 8th, 2016. The drive is organized and run by the National Honor Society members. Members sign up for shifts where they check in and tend to donors. This year, over 100 students, staff, and parents donated blood.

Academic Challenge

The Academic Challenge is a quasi-Jeopardy style quiz bowl competition, that has both individual and team components, but sadly, no cash prizes.

This year, under the leadership of Mr. Dan Rowan, the team went four and six which is a fairly good result considering their youth. The team had only three seniors, Taylor Casey, Alexis Hare, and Evan Neide, and two standout sophomores Andrew Barnhardt and Michael Giaquinto.

The good news is that twelve freshmen signed up for the team, which bodes well for next few years. Good luck in the future and keep on watching Jeopardy for practice!

Mothers Matter

On March 16th, members of Audubon HS' Interact Club traveled to the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation to help prepare baskets for the Mothers Matter program.

Mothers Matter is an organization that distributes thousands of beautiful gift bags/baskets with women’s personal care and beauty products for Mother’s Day to day care centers, pediatric hospital wards and medical day care facilities, women’s shelters, agencies and facilities.

As a group, the Interact Club collected a large bin of women’s personal care products to contribute to the foundation when they arrived. After receiving instructions from the founder (Susan Rose) about the program, they went right to work!

The students divided themselves into groups and began to fill baskets, even staying and working through lunch. The Interact Club was thrilled that they were able to put together approximately 150 baskets.

Once again, Audubon’s Interact Club represented AHS with pride and portrayed the Interact Club’s motto, “Service Above Self,” with extraordinary effort.
