Glows and Grows

Glows: Wonderful work wrapping up most of the MAP testing. We have a few stragglers left but the vast majority of our students have completed both mid year assessments. I've been digging into the data and am excited about the solid growth many of our students made. Also, a very big thank you to Mrs. Baker and all of the staff members who are supporting the ELPAC. The shift to the online assessment has a learning curve and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. I can't wait to see our English Learners shine on the assessment.

Grows: An add-on to last week (below): If you were to select one area of the instructional day to build in regular, solid academic conversation skills, what part of the day would you select?

How do you purposefully support and scaffold meaningful, rich, regular academic conversations in your classroom? I look forward to seeing these play out during my classroom visits this month.

MAP Testing

The MAP Winter Test Administration wraps up this week (Thursday, 2/20). We are aiming for 100% completion rates. I appreciate your help.

Please note we want to get all makeups done as soon as possible. Classroom teachers are responsible for attempting to get those makeups done in the class. If you are unable to finish them or you have a straggler, I will attempt to help.

SCOE Special Education Visit

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District is receiving directed assistance from the Solano County of Education in the area of Special Education. As part of their work, SCOE will be visiting several schools across the District. Ours is one. They will interview me on February 24th starting at 8:00 and will spend a bit of time visiting classrooms (with me in tow). They will likely wrap up by 9:15.

Morning Exepectations

Last week was better but I'd appreciate a few more reminders this week:

1. Students may enter campus for breakfast and/or game room starting at 7:50 via the red door. They must enter and report directly to their destination.

2. The main gates go up at 8:10. Students should report to morning PE as soon as possible. If they are here at 8:10, they may hang up backpacks (or follow whatever routine you have set for your students).

3. The first bell rings at 8:15 and this is the reminder to clear the MPR and quad and to hurry to morning PE.

4. The second bell rings at 8:20 and students must be with you by that time.

We have limited supervision capacity in the MPR and quad and yard. Please pitch in and kindly welcome and move students along to morning PE.

Big picture

Software Justification/Youtube Access

Fairfield-Suisun Unified requires a software justification form to be completed for any software programs that students will be accessing. The primary reason for this is to ensure that the district has vetted privacy protection for our students. If you are looking to add a program of any sort, your best bet is to start with me. I know it is an additional layer but I guarantee it is simply to ensure the integrity of the privacy protections.

Also, as previewed in our staff meeting in January, Youtube Access has been granted to students. The use of Youtube on the campus network and in your classroom is something you should decide on and monitor. I look forward to seeing how it is used in various classes!

Thanks again to Ms. McElveen for inviting us into her classroom last week and for showcasing one tool she uses to engage her students. If you ever want to see it in action in her class, reach out to her. I can even cover a class for a few minutes for you to jump over to watch, if needed.

Check out the portable professional development in the bathroom. You can take a flyer or scan the QR code to get some insight and ideas on using google classroom. Thank you to the kidn staff member who posted.

Attendance, Student and Staff/Reminder!

If you are concerned about a student who is missing school, reach out to the family or to Karen and we will work on making a contact with a family to chat through whatever is going on. Sometimes, a postcard or good news referral for a student missing school goes a long way.

Remember, I track school wide attendance here! One of the best things we can do to find success for our students is to celebrate their presence and to make sure we are the ones leading them each day! Thanks for your commitment.

Donors Choose

Many of you put together some awesome "" requests. As a school, your work to gain donations to use for specific projects, supplies, activities, and furniture from the community is appreciated! A few things:

1. Please let me know if you have submitted a Donors Choose project. Send me the link and I will be sure to include it in my parent newsletter and on our Facebook page.

2. If the project includes furniture, it must be approved by our purchasing department. If you send me the specs ahead of time, I have no issue sending it to the appropriate staff for approval.

3. Send me any photos AFTER the arrival of the project and I will also include that in any parent newsletter/FB/IG post.
