Ellensburg Celebrations and Board of Education Ends
As the 2018-2019 year comes to a close, we have much to celebrate in Ellensburg School District. After meeting with and gathering feedback from a wide variety of staff, students, parents and community members this year, we developed a clear vision for what we desire for our students to experience as they journey through ESD and clear outcomes for them as ESD graduates. We call this vision our Board of Education ENDS. The ESD vision statement is that : “All students in the Ellensburg School District will graduate from high school prepared for life’s opportunities.” Being prepared for life’s opportunities means that students will develop the Board Ends or:
I. Strong foundations in academic and future ready skills by experiencing a more thematic, personalized, problem/project based approach to learning. ESD will continue to set a high priority on early learning and literacy in the early grades.
II. A vision of success for their future in an ever changing world by experiencing multiple opportunities to learn about various types of post-secondary experiences through partnering with community members, businesses, career and technical (CTE) classes (starting in middle school); earning college credit while in high school; and exploring various career pathways available to all freshmen entering Ellensburg High School.
III. Positive connections with peers, adults and extracurricular or school sponsored clubs or events. The use of restorative practices and community circles are central to building this sense of connectedness within each school.
On May 16th, we used these BOE ENDS to celebrate teachers, classified and pro-tech staff, parent and community members who have been actively helping students to develop these desired Board of Education Ends or necessary outcomes for students. The award recipients for each category at this Excellence in Ellensburg Ceremony ( put in link for pictures) included:
