School fee information for the 2023-24 school year is now posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online. This is where you can also add and pay for this year's yearbook.
Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities fees and more.
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay your fees, you can apply to have certain fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2023.
For more information about school fees, waivers, and payment deadlines visit eips.ca. Alternatively, contact Cathy Eyben, Business Manager at Lakeland Ridge School at 780-416-9018.

Read In Week 2023 - October 2-6.
Read In Week returns on October 2. This year’s theme: “Read In Reimagined.” Through various activities, students will spend the week learning how to reimagine reading—it’s more than just story books—reading happens everywhere and is for everyone, no matter your age. Some of the activities planned for Read In Week include:
Monday, October 2: Special Junior High Guest Reader: Kyle Kasawski
October 2-4: Mystery Readers tradition continues
Tuesday, October 3: Read my shirt/clothing!
Wednesday, October 4: PJ/Onesies Day
Thursday, October 5: Strathcona County Library visits
Read In Week is a division-wide initiative held annually to encourage a lifelong love of reading and to enhance literacy awareness among students, staff, families and community members. Lakeland Ridge School invites all families to participate in Read In Week by reading yourself, with your child or with someone in the community. For more information, visit the Read In website.
Celebrating World Educators’ Day: October 5
October 5 is World Educators’ Day! World Educators’ Day is celebrated annually around the world as a way to recognize school staff and the integral role they play in providing quality education to students. On October 5, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) encourages all of its students, parents, caregivers and community members to show their appreciation for their educators and the positive impact they make on our lives.
EIPS extends its heartfelt thank you to all Division staff for their dedication, hard work and commitment in guiding and educating students through their kindergarten to Grade 12 years.
LLR Athletics!
Want to know when things are happening? We have an Athletics Calendar on the LLR school website: https://www.lakelandridge.ca/athletics/athletics-calendar. Please visit frequently as our Athletics staff will update as often as they can.
Team Try Outs!
For our team sports, Volleyball, Basketball, and Team Handball, there is a tryout permission form. This form's main purpose is to ensure you are aware that your child is attempting to make a team where there will be team fees associated with it. It also allows the coaching staff to know that they can safely make selections knowing that they have all the correct information on potential players and their availability to play. This form only needs to be signed once a year and covers all team sports tryouts.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Students are not permitted to administer their own medication at school. All medication should be provided in its original packaging and labelled with the student’s name. All medication will be stored in the office with administering recorded.
Respiratory Illness Guidance
The health and safety of staff, students and visitors is a top priority. Continue to reinforce the following hygiene habits to protect staff and students from spreading respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.
- Stay home if you’re feeling sick.
- Wash or sanitize your hands often.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Clean and disinfect high touch surfaces regularly.
- Wear a mask if you get sick or develop symptoms while at school or work.
As per Alberta Health guidelines, staff, students, contractors and visitors who have symptoms of respiratory Illness or test positive for COVID, should stay home until:
- symptoms have improved,
- they feel well enough to resume normal activities, and
- they have been fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medications.
For anyone who has a respiratory illness or has tested positive for COVID, it is recommended that they wear a mask for a total of 10 days from the onset of symptoms—even if the symptoms have resolved or improved—when in indoor settings with other individuals.
Kids Have Stress Too!
Presented by Strathcona County Family Resource Network
Wes Hosford Elementary School, October 12 from 6-8 pm
Even the most nurturing home and school environment includes a range of stressors that can both challenge and motivate children. While stress is a necessary part of development and learning, it’s clear that Canadian families now face more stress than ever before.
With the help of a range of educators, psychologists, and stress experts from across the country, we developed the Kids Have Stress Too! ®program. The program is designed to help the important people in children's lives learn to promote resiliency by buffering the impact of stress and building positive coping strategies to deal with life’s stressors.
We will talk about how stress can lead to Anxiety and Depression along with many other challenges. We will also talk about resources for specific mental health diagnoses. We will also cover positive, tolerable, and toxic stress, how it impacts brain development, and specific tools for parents to practice with their children to manage and reduce stress in healthy ways.
