Hertzog Headlines

recent happenings in 4th grade - Week of September 21-25

This week in ELA we continued working within the workshop model and had our first spelling list. As a reminder, these words will be introduced on Monday and we will test on Friday. Throughout the week, students should be practicing all of the words using the spelling menu located in the about section of our google classroom. Five activities including one at home activity must be completed and turned in Friday morning. If done on the chrome book, save and share or email to Mrs. Hertzog. We are trying to be as paperless as possible. Completing assignments on notebook paper is totally fine, just turn it in throughout the week or on Friday morning. Any questions.... just ask! :) We also began talking about personal narratives and using context clues in our reading.

We continued working in the first part of our multiplication unit. We learned about factors as well as prime and composite numbers. We will test over the first part (multiples, factors, prime and composite numbers) next week. Then we will move on to multiplying larger numbers as the second part of the unit. Please review the difference between multiples and factors!

Social Studies/Science

We tested the Missouri Unit this week and began our first Science unit on Scientific Practices.

As we continue learning about the 7 Habits we are gaining a better understanding about what it means to be a leader. We talked about what a leader looks like. We also discussed why so many of us KNOW what it takes to be a leader but so many of us do not show leadership. There seem to be many reasons, but mostly it is just that we choose not to. We are all working on choosing to be a leader.

Chrome Book Care

Please remember to close your chrome book before moving it. Many devices (not in our class) have been damaged by carrying them by screen when open. Also, it is important not to allow the chrome books to be completely drained of battery. They will require technical support here at school to charge properly after being totally drained. It is the expectation that chrome books are fully charged at home each night. Chrome books will not be allowed to be charged at school.
