Words from the Principal...
Butte Elementary Families,
It's hard to believe that we are just two weeks from the end of 1st quarter and entering October. We are starting to have a chill in the air, and we are getting into a real groove with our academics. We started "Skills Block" for Reading about 2 weeks ago and it is working very well. This idea was generated by our team as a way to provide more students with Reading intervention. Not only have we accomplished that task, but we are providing more students with enrichment as well! Students have a 40 minute block Monday through Thursday where they travel to another teacher or support staff (or stay with their homeroom teacher) to work on Reading skills at their level. This is in addition to work in the classroom, and in addition to work students might already be doing for an intervention. We will review data soon, and shuffle as needed to best meet the needs of kids. :-)
We have had a couple of fundraisers running. PTA is running the Pig Raffle. This drawing will be during the Fall Festival held by PTA from 5:30-8:00 on Friday, October 21st. This supports the PTA, who in turn, supports the school. :-) We have also been running the believe kids fundraiser which will end this Friday, October 7th. With our goal of 3,000, we are hoping to support running some of our after school programs like Archery, Chess, and Science Olympiad.
Thanks for hanging with us as we have worked together through some difficulties. We are moving in a good direction, and I can't wait to see the good things our students will learn as a result :-).
Educationally,
Joshua Rockey

Dismissal and Bus Updates
Thank you for working with us on the bus shortage situation. As you know, Butte Elementary will not have Regular Education Bus Service on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is for routes 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. You can find the most up to date information here https://www.matsuk12.us/buscancellations.
We expect to only have 1 day a week with no bus service beginning the week of October 24th.
As always, please use the school dismissal manager app to communicate how your student is going home each day. You can set a default, and make changes to a bus number, bus stop, activity, or parent pick up all the way until 2:45. Here is the link School Dismissal Manager
We will continue to use the two loop method of dismissal on Mondays and Tuesdays when there is no bus service. We are fine tuning this process, but you can help us most by stating your student's first and last names, and bus number when you pull up :-). While it is not perfect, we are still managing to move students through faster than at most other elementary sites.
Nurse Notes
News from Butte Nurse
With Halloween close at hand, we have been requested to share this attached flyer with as many parents as possible. Unfortunately, there are some bad people out there that try to make our job at being a parent a little harder, especially when it comes to one of our kids' favorite foods - candy. Please check all of your child's candy this Halloween prior to them eating it. If it is not prepackaged, trash it unless you know it came from a trusted source.
With winter slowly creeping down our mountains, we should be planning/expecting cold weather. If you are having trouble getting winter gear for your child, please reach out to me. I will do what I can to help get your student ready for the cold. Every student should have a good winter coat, winter boots, hat, gloves and snowpants. Please remember that students go outside every day until 10 below zero.
Thank you for helping to keep our students safe and healthy this school year. As always, feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
