New Quarter - New Pearson Class for Realize online
Just a reminder for the new quarter: The way infinite campus sends files to Pearson makes it so that each course shows up four times (once per quarter). Because of this, you will have to go back to easybridge and add programs to your class for each quarter. Here is the video that shows how to do that if you need a reminder. https://media.pearsoncmg.com/curriculum/EasyBridge/EBPlus/Tutorials/Plus_QS_TeacherTutorial/story_html5.html
If you click on Step 2 on the left, it will show you that step. It says if you get new students you will need to do this, but even though you have the same class, you will need to re-assign. It has to do with how IC and Pearson communicate with one another.
As you get new students, they SHOULD be uploaded overnight with the Infinite Campus sync, but we have had a few issues here and there. Please let me know if you have a student who has been enrolled more than a day but is not showing on your class list or is unable to login. We will get technology's help, and get everyone on the right track!

The Great American Eclipse - August, 2017
As many of you know, the Great American Eclipse will be viewable from the Saint Louis area on August 21, 2017. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to experience this astronomical phenomena. If you plan on designing lessons or activities that revolve around the eclipse, please let us know how we can support you. The partial eclipse will last for about three hours total but the total eclipse will be for a very short window for all buildings. The windows for the partial eclipse begin around 11:49 am, with peak times happening between approximately 1:15 and 1:20. The FULL eclipse lasts from under a minute to about a minute and a half, but the partial eclipse lasts about an hour and a half. As you are planning your budget for next year, please be aware that students will need glasses to view the eclipse safely.
Here are some websites to look at to learn more about this event:

Eclipse Activity Picking Up in St. Louis area The St. Louis Eclipse Task Force is starting to see a pickup of activity related to the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse.
Dedicated to the safe observation of the Total Solar Eclipse of August 21, 2017!
The map below will give you details about your building's viewing times. You will need to zoom in until you find your building and then click on the map. There will be a window that appears with the times of the partial and total eclipse window.

2017 August 21 Total Solar Eclipse in the United States of America (Great American Eclipse) by Xavier Jubier
You will need to convert the time zone from Universal Time to Central Time. Here is a time zone converter: http://www.worldtimeserver.com/convert_time_in_UTC.aspx
Here are some resources to use when budgeting for eclipse sunglasses:

When looking at the map, we realize that although all of our buildings can view the eclipse with 99% totality or more, not all buildings have access to 100% totality viewing (FHN, Becky-David, Harvest Ridge, Fairmount, and Henderson are at 99% viewing). If your building feels 100% totality viewing would be necessary, we can work with you to coordinate a field trip to Francis Howell High School for the eclipse viewing. If your building would like to budget for a field trip to FHHS, please let us know by January 27th so we can begin coordinating details. If you are not going to take a field-trip to FHHS but your building is still planning a solar eclipse viewing party, please let us know so we can support you in any way.

Integrating Growth Mindsets into Your Math Class
A recent Education Week Research Center survey of 600 K-12 teachers nationwide found that over three-quarters of respondents felt “familiar” or “very familiar” with growth mindset as a concept, and nearly all reported feeling it had a positive potential for teaching and learning. A large portion of respondents also connected growth mindset with a range of positive outcomes and behaviors, but only 20 percent felt strongly that they themselves were good at cultivating a growth mindset in their students.

Student programs in the areas of S.T.E.M. are so important for kids today with so many career choices in these fields. Great Skate Roller Rink has recently acquired the United Skates of America, STEM program and are excited to introduce it to schools in our community. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math field trips have become hugely popular among school districts. The program relates STEM concepts to roller skating, where students will learn that STEM is in everything they do, even in FUN experiences like skating!
We have received rave reviews from over 200 schools that have participated across the country, and that number continues to grow. Included are some photos and a link to our video below so that you can see our phenomenal program in action! https://youtu.be/iMihtQFv0Wg (video link)
