PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - Mr. Goodrich
Nederland Middle-Senior HS Community,
As of next Monday, we will have three weeks remaining in the fall semester. The third week will be final exams (see schedule below). This can be a stressful time for many students and families. Students are closing out the semester and making up work, taking reassessment opportunities and in some cases feeling like the clock is ticking down. That is not a comfortable feeling, and can cause students to shut down, or over obsess, which can cause stress and anxiety.
We fortunately have resources within the school to support students. They can talk with their teachers, they talk with Ms. Pries our counselor or the principals if they need help or guidance. Additionally, they can talk to or set up meetings with Mac Dvorak our Mental Health Advocate in the Wellness Room, or connect with our Mental Health clinician from Mental Health Partners, Jeffrey Lanier (his office is in the front office area). Our doors are open to meet the mental health needs of our students. If parents are wanting to find out more about these resources contact Jill Pries at jill.pries@bvsd.org
Another thing parents can do to help reduce the academic stress students may be experiencing, is to sit and talk about the reality of your student’s situation and determine what can be done to create a plan to address what is on students' plate. Let us know how we can help.
Final Exam Schedule
Finals week will take place December 18th through the 21st. Friday the 22nd is an exam make up day and a teacher grading day. Finals Week Schedule

“Urinetown is a satirical musical that takes place in a dystopian world where a severe water shortage has led to a ban on private toilets. The story follows a young hero named Bobby Strong, who works at the poorest, filthiest public restroom in town. When he falls in love with Hope Cladwell, the daughter of the corrupt CEO of the Urine Good Company, Bobby becomes involved in a rebellion against the oppressive regime. Urinetown explores themes of capitalism, bureaucracy, and the fight for freedom and justice” (TheaterTrip.com)

Wellness Center
Emotions and Stress Skills Group:
The Wellness Center will be running an Emotions and Stress Skills Group once per week during the school day for 6-8 weeks after Winter Break. There will be separate groups for middle and high school students with age-tailored content. The group will focus on identifying and regulating emotions, distress tolerance and developing effective coping skills. Interested students can sign up using this link or by filling out a form on the bulletin board across from the Wellness Center. Please contact Mac Dvorak, the Mental Health Advocate in the Wellness Center with any questions.
New Hours:
The Wellness Center has new hours thanks to additional funding from Impact on Education! The Center is now open Tuesdays-Thursdays during the entire school day.
