Macleans Primary School Community

Hi Everyone

Hello Everyone! Here we are, the second week of Term 2 and at Covid Protection Framework Orange Light. A huge welcome to our new families and children who have joined us this term.

The exciting and dynamic learning programmes that the teachers have been busy planning are in full flow. There is never a dull moment at MPS with so much happening. For me, I am excited to see the children's values on display at all times. I am always so impressed with their manners and support for one another, which is the value of 'Learning to Live Together'.

I sometimes mention to the children in the daily notices about a 'trio of learning'. What I am referring to is the home-school partnership between teacher-student-parent. Thanks everyone for your part in this trio!

A note of apology to Stella Kim in R12 as the story shared in the newsletter at the end of last term 'Chloe Running' was written by Stella Kim in R12 and not Zoe.

I do hope all the MPS mum's had a wonderful Mothers Day last Sunday.

Please enjoy the newsletter and take note of many of the great activities and events happening at MPS.

Nga Mihi.

Farewell Jan Sargison After 14 Years At Macleans Primary

After 14 years at Macleans Primary Jan Sargison and family will be moving to Napier. Jan has had a number of roles at Macleans Primary, most notably as a fantastic teacher aide, and most recently teaching 'Quick 60' an being a member of the office team in the afternoons. Local to Macleans Primary, Jan's daughters have both been through Macleans Primary and her husband Selwyn has supported the school in many different ways. All the best for your new life in Napier, Jan and family. We will miss you!

We say goodbye to Kristen Jones. Kristen has been at MPS for a number of years in various part-time teaching roles. Kristen will be leaving teaching to take up a new management and administrative position in her church. All the best Kristen!

Building and Project Updates: Hall, R6-R9 & Parking Lot

We have signed off on the plans for the hall and R6 to R9 which means we are now moving to the developmental stage. We have been told by MoE that the parking lot is scheduled for July holidays. Unfortunately the construction process has slowed over past two years and costs have risen. We have had to re-design things because our dollar is not going as far, but we are now committed to a plan that meets all of our present and future needs. So, hopefully we will see some building soon. Very frustrating as so much is out of our control. Managing smaller projects ourselves has been a lot more efficient than working through the MoE as we have to do with the hall and classrooms. As such we have completed the staffroom and meeting room refurbishment. We have also completed a refurbishment of a new learning space from a storage room.

Hauora/Well-Being

Macleans Primary was one of the five winners of the Educators Guide to Well-Being. I'll be using this book to help guide us in all aspects of Hauora at MPS. Link HERE to read more about the week. Thanks to Room 8 Teacher and Motutapu Team Leader Ambie Govender for facilitating us winning the book.

NetSafe and CyberSafety

Watch this space for details of a parent session on being safe online, how we help at school and what you can do at home. In the meantime, check-out Netsafe HERE for great resources, ideas and tips for parents.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) 2022

Join us! The Macleans Primary School PTA would love to welcome any parents who can spare a moment (or more!) to help the school community. You don’t have to have to commit to regular meetings, you can simply be a friend of the PTA who we can call on for an extra pair of hands. If you have any questions about what the PTA does, or would like to help, email: pta@macleansprimary.school.nz

PTA Chocolate Fundraiser: 16 May to 2 June

Fundraising looks a little different for everyone in recent times. The PTA wish to make things as easy as possible for you all, while still being a bit of fun! To continue raising funds for the pool’s solar heating (and other fab resources for your classrooms) we’re kicking Term 2 off with an EPIC chocolate fundraiser. But not just the Whittakers’ my friends… we have FOUR options for you to choose from. We do require the boxes to be ordered and paid for in advance (via bank transfer or Kindo). After you receive your carry boxes, the chocolate bars/lolly bags can be sold for $2 each to your family/friends/colleagues, and YOU keep that money! You choose if you would like to pre-sell to your ‘customers’ (so you know how many boxes to order) OR you could order a box or two and run your own campaign later. Tips on selling to come soon! And yup, there will be PRIZES!

Click on the ORDER FORM BELOW

BANK TRANSFERS: After doing your transfer, please email pta@macleansprimary.school.nz with: child’s name and room number plus details of your order. Paper order forms being sent out soon.

DO You Have A Child Turning Five?

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. Our roll is steadily growing and we need to plan for classes and teachers during the year. REPEAT MESSAGE: Teacher Only Days 2022 Updates on Date Changes

Unfortunately Covid-19 has impacted on our strategic planning for the year and we have had to change our Teacher Only Days (ToD). Regardless of what Covid-19 has in store for us, we will not be changing these days again. The first of the three ToD is in a couple of weeks on Friday 3 June. This ToD is attached to a long weekend, so a long-long weekend for families. Macleans Primary School's ToD are at school and are designed to allow teachers to review the previous planning cycle and plan for the next, whilst supporting our assessment and curriculum development and application. These days are in accordance with the Primary Teachers Collective Agreement and will be held on:

  • Friday 3 June (change from 20 May)
  • Friday 26 August (change from 12 August)
  • Friday 18 November (change from 25 November)

Repeat Message: Macleans Primary School Entertainment Books

Do you use the Entertainment Book App? I used to use the paper copy but that is gone now and the app. is the only option. I recommend it for sure...great savings and offers that my family uses often. For each 'book' sold, we receive $24. If we could do 10O that would be $2400 raised for the school for resources.
