From the Principal's Desk…

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have got off to a fantastic start to our final term for 2022. It has been so much better than my previous two years as principal – two years full of interruptions / remote learning. All our staff are so much happier this year and the students are too. Lately I have been taking quite a few visitors around our school – everyone has made comment on our calm and orderly learning environments. We know this is a fundamental requirement in schools as it enables students to learn at their best and teachers to teach at their best. Our classrooms are warm and inviting and our students are engaged and interested in their learning. I feel a great sense of pride in our school as I wander around in and out of the classroom – we do have an amazing school.

Last Friday saw an incredible turn out to the special assembly for the naming of the hall after Howard Jones a much-loved past principal. Howard was instrumental in making our school the school of choice for everyone in Healesville, he worked hard to get the buildings that we have today. It was lovely to be involved in this celebration. I would like to thank Marlene Williams and Kersten Gentle for all their hard work in organising the assembly.

Some of you may have met Krystal Winter in the office on Wednesdays. Krystal will be replacing Louise as our business manager. Louise will be moving back to Perth in early December. I cannot thank Louise enough for all her assistance and friendship over the past three years. She will be greatly missed by not only me but all our school community. Louise’s last day will be Friday November 25th.

This week I went to the pool to see our younger students swimming – they are doing so well, and it looked like a lot of fun too. Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who have helped the teachers with organising the students and assisted the students in getting dry and dressed. Another example of how much we rely on you to help us in all aspects of school life.

Now that we have had some sunny days it has been great to see that most of our students have been wearing hats in the yard. If your child does not have a school hat – they are available online through Surry Clothing in Box Hill. We still have some of our students in grades five and six wearing clothes that are not part of our uniform. Please could you support us be ensuring your child wears the correct school uniform.

Later this term we have both the grade three/four and grade five/six camps. If you have not signed the permissions or begun paying, could you please advise your child’s teacher or come and see me. A massive thank you to our parents who have volunteered to go on these camps. Camp is always fun and gives many students a chance to shine and show another side of their personalities. It is exciting to have camps happening again this year. I would also like to thank our teachers who have organised these camps and are leaving their families to take our students away. Without their commitment we would not be able to run these events.

At the end of this term, your child’s Semester 2 report will be available to view. Schools are required to formally report student achievement and progress to parents/carers at least twice per school year for each student. Please make sure you view the report as they provide you with accurate information about your child’s learning.

The school reports are available to view on Compass and a recent print out from Compass indicated an large number of parents were yet to read the reports from Semester 1. We cannot stress enough the importance of taking the time to read your child’s report to ensure that you are up to date with all facets of your child’s learning and development. Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you are unable to locate your child’s report in Compass.

On Friday 11th November we are holding a trivia night to support Queens Park Kinder and our school. Please support this fundraiser. For us we wish to spend some money fixing up our grounds and playing spaces. For the kinder they wish to build a new sand pit. There are lots of tables available and it will be great to have the school used for this event. So please pop into the office and purchase a table for yourself and five friends.

On Thursday of this week the office sent out the parent payment letter to all families which outlines the charges associated with our school. Please read as it contains important information on how to order your child’s student pack for 2023.

Spring is coming and we would love some help preparing our gardens for spring planting.

If you’re available on Tuesday afternoons From 1.40 onwards, we would love a hand to weed, compost and mulch our gardens. Come along with your gardening gloves and join Ella our sustainability officer along with other enthusiastic young gardeners and turn our gardens into wonderful food producing havens.

Let the office know if you’re available
