Third and Fourth grade teams take 2nd place in UIL District Meet
On January 21, we competed in the UIL District Meet in Crandall. Many of our teams and students placed this year. We had first place winners in Storytelling, Music Memory, Chess Puzzles, and Spelling.
National Reading Day
January 23 was National Reading Day and we celebrated literacy at Phillips. We had guest readers from the community throughout the day, Drop Everything and Read (Dear) Time for 20 minutes, and a Storybook Character Parade. Students dressed as characters from their favorite book and carried their book while in the parade. This was a special day at Philips this year and we plan to make it a tradition for years to come.
The Kemah Writing Academy
The Kemah Writing Academy came to Phillips on January 26 and 27. All fourth grade students participated in a two and a half hour camp led by a Kemah instructor that allowed them to practice pre-writing skills for Expository writing. I believe these camps directly impacted our writing instruction and improvement on the Writing STAAR last year and I look forward to seeing the advantages this year as well.
T-TESS
We are busy completing our T-TESS evaluations before Spring Break. With pre-conferences, observations, and post conferences with every certified teacher our weekly schedules are quite full. Critical conversations are being held as we discuss areas of reinforcement and refinement after each observation. Instruction and student achievement can only benefit from these meetings as teachers work to improve their craft and we grow as instructional leaders.
