Gertie Belle Rogers Adopt an Ornament Tree

Our Adopt an Ornament Tree will be up and ornaments ready to take on Thursday, December 1st. If you would like to "adopt" an ornament this year to help make another family's holiday a little brighter, please visit our tree in the GBR office. If you select an ornament, please leave your name and what number ornament you chose. We just want to account for each number so they do not get removed or misplaced by mistake. The ornaments all have gift suggestions on the back, along with ages and whether the family members are male or female. If you select an ornament, please bring the gifts to school wrapped and labeled with age and gender along with the ornament by Monday, December 19th. We will arrange with the families to pick up their gifts. Happy Holidays!

Student Penny Wars

In honor of Veteran's Day, our GBR Student Council sponsored a Penny Wars fundraiser for our local VFW. Students were encouraged to bring their pennies and bills to create positive points for their classroom buckets. Time was set aside for students to put negative points (silver coins) in other classrooms' buckets. Student council members and advisors then counted each of the buckets. All of the money collected is being donated to the VFW which is a total of $1549. Way to go 1st Grade Mrs. Brua's classroom for bringing in the most points - they win a pizza party.

Caring Kernels

The Caring Kernel Award is given monthly to students who go above and beyond and are nominated by their teacher. Students are chosen for showing kindness to others at school or within the community, showing true Kernel and school spirit, having a positive attitude, demonstrating great sportsmanship in school activities and sports, and overcoming hardships in school or at home. Below are our Caring Kernels and their teachers for the month of October. Below are our November student winners and their respect classroom teacher.

❄️ Brrrrrrr! It's Cold Outside 🧣

Parents, we cannot stress enough as the cold weather and snow move in, to make sure your student brings COATS, hats, mittens, snow pants and boots.

We are seeing some students coming into school with no coats and just hooded sweatshirts.

ALL students are required to go out for recesses - even during this cold weather. We only stay

inside when the temperature or feels like temperature is zero degrees or BELOW.

ART ROOM CHATTER

A BIG thank you to all the parents who have ordered from the Artsonia website. These purchases made by you from the site enables myself to purchase special items, incentive rewards, and drawing books for my students to use.

Now that the school has reopened I am extending an invite for volunteers. If you are interested in spending approximately an hour a week helping out in my Art classroom, please feel free to email me at April.Geist@k12.sd.us. I would love to hear from you.

If you would be interested in making a donation to my ART Classroom, I am looking for assemblage craft kits that can be purchased through Oriental Trading. If you are interested in donating some of these craft kits, you will be able to find a variety of them by logging on to the Oriental Trading website and searching assemblage craft kits.

Thank you in advance for supporting my classroom.
